Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Early-Career Water Resources Engineer or Scientist in our Oakland or Walnut Creek, California offices. The position will have the opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real-world situations while solving our clients' water quality challenges related to NPDES and TMDLs as driven by CWA requirements, and to develop experience related to water quality sampling, data analysis, and reporting, while also learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Field investigations, monitoring, and data collection;
  • Water quality data analysis;
  • Managing, evaluating, and summarizing monitoring data;
  • Reviewing state and federal surface water regulations and permits;
  • Stormwater best management practice design;
  • Water resources-related programming and data analytics;
  • Hydrologic, hydraulic, and water quality modeling;
  • Spatial analysis (GIS) and database management;
  • Construction and industrial stormwater support services, including compliance inspections and stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs); and
  • Technical document preparation, including technical writing and creation of exhibits and maps.


Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental or civil engineering, natural resources science (e.g., geology, environmental science, etc.). (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., E.I.T., P.E.). (preferred)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Prior internship experience in environmental consulting or public agency. (preferred)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. (required)
  • Regular field work and overnight travel. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to stormwater management. (preferred)
  • Experience with software tools such as Excel, SWMM, HMS, HSPF, and RAS. (preferred)
  • Experience with programming and data analytics programs and tools such as Python, VBA, R, AGOL, and web applications and dashboards. (preferred)
  • Experience with spatial analysis software tools such as ArcMap and ArcGIS. (preferred)

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum: $66,560/yearly / Maximum: $88,280/yearly or Minimum: $27.45 /hourly / Maximum: $32.00/hourly (Oakland, Walnut Creek)
