Inside the Role

This position is part of the Detroit Powertrain Mechatronics team. Our team focuses on wiring harness, sensor, actuator and controls development on internal combustion engine and battery electric prolusion technologies. This team takes pride in our global collaboration to design, test and release global powertrain technologies to the North American commercial vehicle market.
This role focuses on work that requires a combination of mechanical & electrical engineering design responsibilities as well as software control & diagnostic strategy knowledge. It also encompasses the integration between the mechanical, electrical and systems components of the vehicle. Designing and troubleshooting advanced systems, and focusing on how to integrate these systems into new and existing design concepts is also part of the role.

Position offers a starting salary range of $74,500 - $95,000 USD

Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, andexperience

What You Drive at DTNA

  • Powertrain sensor research and development on internal combustion engines (ICE)
  • Collaborate globally to define new product sensor specifications as a function of design requirements
  • Test electronics to design, verification, plan and reporting (DVP&R) requirements
  • Interact closely with sensor suppliers to develop products that exceed the requirements of the project
  • On Board Diagnostic (OBD) calibration development for sensors
  • Release components to production upon completion of validation testing
  • Support teardown reporting and failure analysis of test and field components for ICEs
  • Collaborate globally on development of powertrain sensors with Detroit, Stuttgart & India colleagues
  • Willing and able to travel intercontinental and globally on short notice 4-8weeks per year
  • Conduct and thoroughly document project work, draw conclusions, and make recommendations and review with management
  • Opportunity to participate and contribute to cross-functional activities with regional and Global counterparts in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Sales, Purchasing, and Suppliers
  • Communicate effectively and maintain professional/social interaction in a multi-cultural and International environment

  • Generate and implement ideas to continuously improve the work environment, systems, tools, and processes as well as product cost and quality

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Materials Engineering (Required)
  • 0-3 years relative industry experience
  • Ability to manage multiple hardware projects and inform management of any barriers
  • 2 + years of experience identifying and solving the root cause of complex problems
  • Strong oral, written communication and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational skills, highly motivated and self-starter
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to work with and get work done effectively through others
  • Strong PC skills including MS Office and database tools
  • Must have a valid passport

Exceptional Candidates Might Have

  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Materials Engineering
  • 3+ years relevant industry experience
  • 5+ years of experience identifying and solving the root cause of complex problems
  • Experience identifying and solving the root cause of complex problems
  • Knowledge of diesel engine, transmission and aftertreatment systems
  • Language: German intermediate
  • Strong automotive background, hobbies or interests
