SUPPLY CHAIN RELIABILITY ENGINEER (PROCESSING QUALITY)

The Supply Chain Reliability Engineering Quality team is chartered with proactive quality evaluations of the supply base, reducing supply chain risk through assessing and monitoring suppliers and proactively driving needed supplier improvements.

As a Supply Chain Reliability Engineer, you would ensure suppliers are assessed to determine if they continue to meet SpaceX technical and production requirements. You would review supplier quality performance, identify risks and opportunities around the manufacturing processes and services through supplier audits and assessments. You would be responsible for identifying and prioritizing opportunities for improvement, and working with internal and external team members to lead the resulting projects to completion. You would be dealing with suppliers that support all areas of launch (Falcon, Dragon, Starship) at SpaceX. You would build an extensive network within design engineering, build reliability, production, and supply chain management, and a deep understanding of SpaceX systems and processes. This experience would enable you to become a critical voice in the development of group and company strategy.

To be successful, you will need:



  • A deep technical and practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and standards
  • A willingness to roll up your sleeves and step into chaotic situations, using technical knowledge and quality background to understand the current state and most optimal path forward
  • The ability to conduct formal and informal supplier audits, assessments and process reviews
  • The capability to succinctly communicate status and needed action, often urgently, to all levels of the organization
  • An ability to acquire new technical knowledge, particularly around how purchased components and assemblies integrate into the rockets and spacecrafts


RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Review and assess supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems, including formal quality management system and production process reviews. Provide feedback as appropriate on manufacturing/processing methods and technologies
  • Review and understand supplier issues, recommending appropriate actions
  • Drive supplier corrective actions, ensuring true root cause analysis and corresponding corrective/preventive actions effectivity
  • Develop Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) with a holistic understanding of manufacturing or processing to identify risks, leading to measurable supplier assessments
  • Analyze supplier quality data and partner with internal cross functional team to drive supplier improvements
  • Recommend appropriate changes to supplier strategy based on surveillance results
  • Build relationships with cross-functional groups to understand supply base needs
  • Develop policies, standards, processes, and documentation as necessary to ensure continued success


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment
  • 1+ years of experience with Quality Management Systems standards (AS9100 and ISO 9001)


PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Bachelor's degree in materials engineering or chemical engineering
  • Master's degree in materials engineering or chemical engineering
  • Design for manufacturability and assembly
  • Knowledge of principles of chemistry, engineering, fluid dynamics and mechanics of materials
  • Knowledge of 2D blueprints and model drawings
  • Experience with quality systems (ISO 9000/TS/AS9100/NADCAP)
  • Certified lead auditor for AS9100, or QMS and process audit experience
  • Disciplined approach to problem solving - 8D
  • Experience with SQL, software development & project management, process flow mapping, material planning systems, warehouse management systems
  • Knowledge of supplier quality processes (Production Part Approval Process, Advanced Product Quality Planning, First Article Inspection Reports, etc.)
  • Pareto analysis, root cause and corrective action experience. Experience performing PFMEAs
  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) experience


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Position may involve long hours and weekend work as needed
  • Ability to travel up to 60-75%


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:

Supply Chain Reliability Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year
Supply Chain Reliability Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You may also accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year. Exempt employees are eligible for 5 days of sick leave per year.
