Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Medical Lab Technician to join our team at an oncology clinic that specializes in phlebotomy, hematology, chemistry, and urinalysis. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures, ensuring accuracy and precision in all results and completing API surveys. The Medical Lab Technician will collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality patient care. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hematology: Perform routine hematology tests, such as complete blood counts (CBC), ensuring the accurate preparation, analysis, and reporting of results.
  • Chemistry: Conduct clinical chemistry tests on blood. This includes analyzing electrolytes, enzymes, and other biomarkers to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of various conditions.
  • Urinalysis: Perform routine urinalysis tests, ensuring timely and accurate results.
  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with laboratory equipment or testing procedures, ensuring minimal disruption to lab operations. Work closely with senior laboratory staff to maintain lab equipment and ensure proper calibration.
  • Quality Control: Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and quality control standards to ensure compliance with industry regulations and accurate test results. Maintain accurate records of test results, calibrations, and equipment maintenance.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with medical professionals, such as physicians and nurses, to discuss test results and provide insights. Communicate effectively with patients regarding specimen collection and testing procedures.
  • Inventory and Supplies Management: Monitor laboratory supplies and inventory, ensuring that necessary materials are available and properly stored. Assist in ordering and stocking lab supplies as needed.
  • Phlebotomy: Preferred candidate has or can obtain a Washington State Phlebotomy license to occasionally help collect blood samples from patients, ensuring proper identification, labeling, and handling of specimens.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) through a recognized certification body, such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a medical laboratory, preferably in phlebotomy, hematology, chemistry, and urinalysis.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and quality control measures.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to address equipment and procedural issues.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with patients and healthcare professionals with professionalism and care.
