Job Description

Spectrum Healthcare Resources has an opportunity for a PRN Pharmacist at the Dumfries Ambulatory Care Center in Dumfries, VA.

Position Details and Essential Job Functions:

    Accurately prepare and dispense medication orders as per physician requests, following established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Review and VERIFY medication orders to ensure safe, effective use of medications for patients which includes processing, filling, and verifying.
  • Dispense controlled substances to patient care areas while maintaining required legal records.
  • When an actual mistake is discovered, the discovering pharmacist must take immediate action to assess the situation. Accurately document all steps taken in timely manner and any corrective measures. Notify/Report to the supervisor with the solution and the outcome.
  • Assist with other duties such as problem solving, multi-tasking, and attempting to solve the issue at hand by avoiding to delegate others within your shift.
  • Assist and help direct the team during downtime protocol.
  • Performs essential duties of the pharmacy manager when needed.
  • Participate in the implementation of new or improved systems, technologies, equipment, and programs that promote quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the pharmacy manager.
  • Verify the daily activities of pharmacy technicians.
  • Anticipates problems and attempts to solve before they develop.
  • Support and enforce compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Embraces change and supports its implementation.
  • Demonstrate adaptability by managing changing demands and priorities effectively.
  • Monitor drug therapy regimens for potential contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies, and the appropriateness of both drugs and dosages.
  • Assist in adjusting drug dosages according to organizational protocols.
  • Provide clinical consultation and clarification to healthcare practitioners.
  • Recommend therapeutic alternatives to medical staff when appropriate.
  • Offer drug information to patients and their families.
  • Accurately document all clinical activities and interventions.
  • Participate in departmental performance improvement and medication use review activities.
  • Supervise and guide support personnel as a staff pharmacist.
  • Assist in the performance appraisal process for pharmacy support personnel.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, organizing and prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Ensure timely delivery of pharmacy services.
  • Maintain required competencies for the position and keep your pharmacist license up to date.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and demonstrate a commitment to improving patient care.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to uphold a high standard of service quality.
  • Innovate to enhance care quality and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate and prioritize solutions to ensure the best patient outcomes.
  • Maintain high productivity and effective task prioritization to support patient care quality.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in pharmacy or PharmD degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy
  • Have and maintain an unrestricted pharmacy license in one of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • Two to three years' experience to be able to adequately distribute prescription drugs to individuals as well as advise their patients, physicians and other health practitioners on the selection, dosages, interactions, and side effects of medications.
  • Have and maintain current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
  • Shall be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with patients and other staff members.
  • Have knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing, data entry, and automated records.
