Overview

Temporary part-time up to 30 hrs./week. Varied schedule including Saturdays, Sundays & Department Sponsored events. Expected duration: 4/1/2025 - 12/14/2025

DEFINITION: Under direction of the Range Project Technician, provide supervision and oversight of shooting operations at the Hammond Cove Shooting Range Facility in Hartland, Vermont.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Supervise shooting activities as prescribed by the Range Standard Operation Procedures (SOP's). Assist in the prevention of problems on the range through diligence in performing the following duties: Educate users on the Range Safety Rules; provide direct range supervision; enforce all Range Safety Rules; and enforce policies and procedures established by the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department. Evaluate the condition of the Range upon arrival, and prior to departure for the day, including but not limited to: Inspection of entire Range facility to include baffles, ballistic walls, cameras, targeting system, berms, gates, gravel road, bathroom facilities and common areas.

Perform all duties related to check in of users at the Range. Clean up the Range facility in its entirety at the end of each day. Perform required maintenance and upkeep of equipment and materials. Facilitate emergency safety protocols to be used in the event of a life-threatening injury or incident at the facility. Take charge in emergency situations, and act in accordance with the policies established in the Range SOP's.

This position, Training Coordinator - Temporary (Job Requisition #52027), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours, and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed under sometimes stressful conditions and/or with assigned deadlines. Work requires time management and the ability to manage several tasks at the same time. The position requires the ability to communicate effectively, to listen, and make effective decisions. Work requires the ability to read and understand the English language at a speed adequate to perform the job. Persons occupying this position must maintain required certifications. Work requires ability to utilize a problem-solving process that analyzes issues, facts, and data. Incumbent must work effectively in a team environment. Work environment includes exposure to intermittent noise and adverse weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a natural resources field, law enforcement or education.

OR

High school or GED and four (4) years' experience in a natural resources field, law enforcement or education.

NOTE: Must be eligible for certification as a hunter education instructor

Preferred Qualifications

Preferences will be given to those who have law enforcement at a municipal, county, state or federal law enforcement agency, military range instructor, or other similar work related to safety operations on a firing range. Experience as a firearms instructor is highly desirable. Special Qualifications: Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain Range Safety Officer certification & First Aid/First responder training.
