Overview

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing processes within Tucson's manufacturing operations that lead to stable, efficient, and scalable manufacturing processes. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will use the principles of LEAN 6 and 6S to develop and execute a robust continuous improvement program and is also responsible for developing best practices within the production process. This person is self -directed and can work independently. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will mentor, train, and support recruiting efforts for Jr Manufacturing Engineers.



Responsibilities

    Support the manufacturing operation in the effort to produce cost effective and quality products meeting engineering design specifications and customer needs.
  • Interface with advanced programs, design engineering and project manager to coordinate the transition of new product development including: testing, integration, process definition, documentation, tooling, capital equipment purchases and special fixturing.
  • Work with the production team to provide the necessary technical support with an emphasis on continuous improvements for mechanical, electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical assembly operations.
  • Provide technical support to the production and engineering teams, as well as, our suppliers to resolve production process problems.
  • Setup and adjust manufacturing equipment to support new processes
  • Develop and/or support optical and mechanical metrology solutions for new product
  • Create routings, SOP's, WI's, etc. and participate in the quoting process
  • Designs (using SolidWorks) precision fixtures, tooling, or experimental parts to meet special engineering needs
  • Maintains reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs and changeovers
  • Measures process capability and establishes SPC on critical parts and/or processes
  • Research and implement innovated technologies in the areas of tooling, mechanization and automation to reduce the cost of manufacturing.
  • Assist with training production supervisors and workers in the use of tools, equipment and processes.
  • Originate and maintain production process documentation.
  • Works closely with Quality to complete documentation packages for FAI's and production
  • Participate in and/or leads 6S activities and Lean Events.
  • Supports the Preventative Maintenance program.
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations


Qualifications

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Understand all aspects of blueprints including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Proficient in CAD software; proficiency in SolidWorks
  • Working knowledge of LEAN 6 principles
  • Ability to think critically and solve complex problems
  • Excellent math, verbal and written skills
  • Understand and perform conventional manufacturing and metrology techniques for precision optics
  • Intermediate to advanced mechanical and computer skills

Education/Experience:

B.S. Degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering, plus 8-12 years manufacturing experience, preferably in an opto-mechanical or opto-electronics manufacturing environment. Must have a comprehensive knowledge of mechanical fabrication, assembly techniques and machining processes. Industrial engineering, product packaging, electronic and optical fabrication and assembly techniques are preferred. ISO training is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for long periods; ability to travel; adequate manual dexterity to perform essential functions; ability to use some physical efforts in the handling of heavy materials and machinery; ability to lift 50 lbs.; ability to work in manufacturing environment.
