Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Business Administrator for the Child Health Institute of New Jersey ( CHINJ) and Center for NeuroMetabolism ( CNM) at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

This position serves as the chief financial and administrative officer for the Child Health Institute of New Jersey ( CHINJ); and for the newly developing Center for NeuroMetabolism ( CNM) within the CHINJ. Essential responsibilities include: preparation of annual budget and monthly financial statements for individual laboratories, CNM and CHINJ; pre-award and post-award grants administration; review and approve expenditures; serve as institute human resources manager; provide strategic planning and advice to the Institute and Center Directors; etc.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Prepares and monitors the annual budget.
  • Responsible for the financial management of the RBHS Chancellor's Office major investment in the CNM (approximately $22 million) as well as for the management of the on-going CHINJ budget.
  • Oversee the recruitment of the planned new 10-12 new faculty.
  • Responsible for pre-award and post-award grants administration.
  • Reviews and approves expenditures in the Rutgers MarketPlace procurement system.
  • Serves as the departmental human resources manager.
  • Responsible for the oversight and management of the administrative activities of CHINJ and CNM.
  • Responsible for managing the space occupied by CHINJ and CNM in the CHINJ Building and the new Rutgers Health Building (aka HELIX).

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree in discipline relevant to biomedical research, finance, or administration/management skills.
  • A minimum of seven years of progressive financial and operational management experience preferably in an academic medical school or biomedical research institution.
  • Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of and experience with financial and administrative systems (financial information systems, purchasing, payroll and human resources).
  • Demonstrated capability of handling confidential and sensitive material and interactions.
  • Outstanding human relations skills, and the ability to function in a team environment required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer candidates with research administration experience including federal and foundation grants, contracts and subawards.

  • Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking, or hearing. No special vision requirements.
  • Work Environment: Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). This position is considered on site, however opportunities for hybrid in person / remote work may be permissible in accordance with Rutgers/RBHS policies.
