Staff Associate I

Job Summary

The Staff Associate I in the Division of Aging & Dementia at the Neurological Institute at Columbia University Medical Center will be working on research program functioning within a broader portfolio of related work aiming to improve community well-being through multimedia, multigenerational community intervention programs. The current program targets the public's awareness of Alzheimer's symptoms through the mode of entertainment-enhanced health education.

Responsibilities

Old S.C.H.O.O.L. Hip Hop (Seniors Can Have Optimal aging and Ongoing Longevity) targets children and their parents through school-based programs that use Hip Hop music to motivate participants around dementia education. The Staff Associate I will be responsible for school site recruitment, participant (parent and student) recruitment and delivery of program materials, collection of data through protocol survey instruments, and health education program implementation in schools through New York City. The Staff Associate I will have experience recruiting and educating children in public school settings and coordinating school program with administrators, consenting parents and children into study, and coordinating program logistics. The Staff Associate I will have a strong background in educating lay people about health and wellness and abilities to engage with the public. In the context of this project are additional community outreach and organizational activities, including partnership development with stakeholders, and the coordination of ancillary studies. The responsibilities during the appointment will consist of contacting and coordinating the study procedures with local schools, contacting families for completion of research surveys, and delivery of programming on site. Additionally, you will be responsible for contributing to regulatory elements of the work and program refinement and other activities related to the research program of Dr. James Noble.

Bachelor's degree in specific research field
and 4 years experience preferred

• Ability to teach, assess, and implement standard interviewing procedures.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work on different tasks at once and be highly organized.
• Fluent in English

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with New York City schools
• Experience working in high-need urban communities.
• Comfortable spending a significant amount of time in the field.
