The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Established in July 2022, Columbia Global (CG) brings together major initiatives from across the university to advance knowledge and foster global engagement to address complex global challenges. Through interdisciplinary research, education, collaboration, and directed action, Columbia Global fosters groundbreaking scholarship, facilitates leadership development, advances cutting-edge thinking, and implements projects designed for social impact.

The Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) team has established an organization-wide system for monitoring the outputs and outcomes of Columbia Global's work to ensure that impact is and remains front and center. The MEL team also conducts evaluations of programs that demonstrate strategic value to the organization, with a focus on measuring impact and generating recommendations.

The MEL team at Columbia Global seeks two (2) Student Research Workers who will play a role in collecting, cleaning, and analyzing secondary qualitative data, as well as primary quantitative data collected from across Columbia University. The Student Research Workers will work closely with the Director and Project Officer to support two specific projects that will take place between February and June 2025. Through assisting in MEL activities, the Student Research Workers will help the MEL team identify promising innovations and areas of improvement in the educational, research, and social impact initiatives led by Columbia University.

The Student Research Workers will be expected to work up to 15 hours per week in accordance with the department's hybrid work schedule from February 1 - June 30, 2025. The positions will be funded through the end of the projects or through June 30, 2025, whichever occurs first.

Responsibilities



  • Participate with the MEL team in developing a descriptive analysis of primary survey data.
  • Collect secondary data from the Columbia University website.
  • Identify and map the local engagements of universities through online searches.
  • Review of gray literature, blogs, social media, and peer-review papers about the local engagement of universities in the United States.
  • Support and provide input into the creation of visualization of results.
  • Participate in drafting reports and presentations.
  • Assist in creating presentations of findings for various stakeholders.
  • Assist in communicating key findings to the MEL team that will be used to disseminate to CG staff and partners.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree and enrollment in a Columbia University graduate degree program including, but not limited to, Public Health, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, Anthropology and SIPA.
  • Applications must include a resume, cover letter and writing sample.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Superior organizational and planning skills
  • Knowledge of Excel or STATA.
  • Ability to use NVivo or any other qualitative analysis software
  • Experience conducting descriptive analysis and creating visualizations to present results in an effective manner;
  • Experience presenting results in a visually appealing manner;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with proven ability to translate complex concepts into succinct, clear, accessible language for multiple audiences.
