Job Summary:

This full-time position is responsible for complex projects, analyses, and reporting. The successful candidate will have superior financial management skills and experience in a complex, fast-paced environment.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Under general direction, works on highly complex assignments where independent judgment and discretion are required to accomplish goals, acts in an advisory capacity on all levels of financial activity.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of accounting principles to accomplish projects/assignments.
  • Reviews existing financial processes and procedures and determines systems or other improvements to make processes more efficient and effective.
  • Forecast, analyze, and projects complex financial data for multiple departments; provides recommendations on court of action.
  • Analyze and review funding and transactions, recommend and process appropriate adjustments, and close projects, in coordination with central Accounting department.
  • Provides financial analyses and interpretation to senior management; analyze history, identify trends, and draws conclusions to make recommendations to management.
  • Applies comprehensive skills in guiding the planning and execution of financial analysis and reporting activities. Applies complex knowledge of policies, principles and regulations. May serve as a technical resource to other staff.
  • Plans, coordinates, and executes policy implementation applicable to the installation and improvement of processes and systems.
  • Applies advanced knowledge of department workflow and impact of financial and reporting operations. Works on the development of methods to maximize Institute and department effectiveness and compliance.
  • Considerable judgement and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations; refers more complex issues to higher levels.
  • Consistently delivers professional, proactive customer services and support to internal and external customers.
  • Interpret and effectively communicate polices to staff and customers; recommend appropriate action to be taken.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines for assignments, completing them timely and accurately.
  • May provide additional administrative and financial functions as needed.
  • May provide assistance to internal and/or external auditors regarding audits of financial transactions, policies, procedures, and practices.

Basic Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate must have Bachelor's degree plus seven years' relevant experience, or ten years relevant experience in accounting or finance in lieu of a degree.
  • Candidate must be able to communicate effectively in writing, by phone, and in person with people throughout the Institute and outside Caltech.
  • Must have outstanding oral and written communication skills and ability to work effectively with fellow employees and management are required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles is essential.
  • The successful candidate must work with a high degree of detail and must be able to organize, manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Experience with MS Office programs essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Procurement, including purchase orders and processing invoices.
  • Experience with Oracle, OBI (Oracle Business Intelligence), Jaegger e-procurement system, AssetWorks AiM and/or Power BI.
  • Bachelor's degree in business field.

Hiring Range

$97,400 - $108,100 Per Year

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
