MaineHealth Virtual Same Day Care is recruiting for an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) providing flexible per diem coverage on weekends. This practice includes coverage for urgent care, same day care, and primary care management in a virtual environment under the supervision of the Supervising Physician, following the established standards and practices. This position is 90%/10% remote/in-person, with the 10% in-person work allowing for occasional in-person team meetings and/or retreats. This team member will use virtual communication channels, including synchronous video encounters, secure asynchronous chat and telephone among others to treat patients with common illnesses and chronic health conditions. May include both scheduled and on-demand patient encounters. Duties will include obtaining full telehealth-appropriate histories and physicals, interpreting and integrating patient data, collaborating with other care team members and providers in managing acute and long-term medical needs, ordering appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures, and performing follow-up for results from diagnostic testing ordered by others on the Virtual Care team or by other care team members across MaineHealth. Other duties include prescribing medications for both new medications as well as refills, instructing patients and families regarding medications and treatments and providing patient education. May include occasional on-call coverage for management of critical results.

This provider must live in Maine or New Hampshire working weekends, 1-2 weekends per month.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program with a Master's Degree level of education is preferred.
  • License/Certifications:
    • Current license issued by the State of Maine as Nurse Practitioner or physician Assistant.
    • Willingness to obtain additional state licenses as needed.
    • Current certification as NP or PA required.
    • BLS certification is required.
  • Experience: Three or more years of experience in a physician office setting preferred.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfort with use of technology and web-based practice tools.
  • Proficiency with the use of Electronic Medical Records.
  • Willingness to innovate and work collaboratively in an iterative manner to improve processes, workflows and patient care tools.
  • Comfort with rapid change.
