This is a 1st shift position: 6:00am-2:30pm (Monday-Friday)

Overall Summary

A Sr. Special Instrument Machinist is an individual who has mastered and acquired skills and tools necessary to fabricate and develop all custom and prototype components that are pertinent to the growth and future of MicroPort Orthopedics. The incumbent will specialize in the design, development and fabrication of jigs, fixtures, wax injection molds, and all custom components. Excellent work habits, patience, confidence, and teamwork are required of this person in order to produce the highest quality of product possible.

Your duties will include:



  1. Evaluate and translate engineering prints to produce precision parts.
  2. Operate all required manual equipment, including mills, lathe, drill press, band saw, surface grinder, and have a good working knowledge of all CNC equipment.
  3. Plan and set up machining procedure required to product component.
  4. Must be able to consistently machine parts with precise dimensions including tolerance of .0001.
  5. Must be able to envision the finished product and process of manufacturing a component from start to finish with limited help from the rest of the department.
  6. Must be able to perform work without the use of set-up sheets or tooling data.
  7. Knowledge of speeds and feeds in relation to the type of material, cutting tool geometry, and tool selection.
  8. Must have a working knowledge of writing and proving out CNC programs with limited help from fellow machinists.
  9. To assist and instruct lower-level machinists, when needed, and offer ideas and techniques.

About You

We might be a great match if you have:


* A great knowledge of mathematics including trigonometry is required to perform programming and operation of CNC equipment, including mills, lathes and EDM's.
* An in-depth knowledge of engineering drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is also required. Knowledge of all areas of manufacturing including heat treating, CAD/CAM, welding, and all machining practices is required.

YOUR EDUCATION

Required: High School Diploma or GED

Preferred: Technical School Training

YOUR EXPERIENCE



  • Minimum 8 years of machining experience, which may be a combination of trade school, actual machine shop experience, CNC, and manuals. Prior programming experience (Mazak preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years CNC experience, 3 years manuals experience, with 2 years Instrument Services, Customs or Tool & Die or comparable experience.



Visual acuity requirements apply to the role, including peripheral, color, and depth perception.
