DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Driver License Examiner with a CDL, you will assess applicants' physical conditions, driving qualifications, and vehicle mechanical integrity according to guidelines. Your responsibilities include:

  • Performing pre-trip inspections of vehicles before driving tests
  • Checking for valid inspection stickers, operational lights, windshield wipers, and other safety features
  • Reviewing applications, registrations, and permits for irregularities or fraud
  • Administering CDL and Non-CDL knowledge exams on motor vehicle codes and traffic signs
  • Evaluating applicants' ability to operate vehicles and follow road rules.
You will also audit third-party examiners for compliance by participating in or scoring CDL skills tests. Additionally, you will conduct vision tests, including telebinocular and color perception assessments. Adherence to the Driver and Vehicle Services Customer Service Policy is mandatory.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hour work week.
  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position may require travel and overtime

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (commonwealth title); or

  • Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.

Special Requirements:
  • This position require an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • This position require no suspensions or revocations of a driver's license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
  • All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver's license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
  • You must have possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
