The Virtualization Engineer will be responsible for:
- Meeting with users and evaluating current and projected demands for equipment and network needs. Researching alternatives and recommending modifications to the current architectures, procedures, and configurations to maximize utilization of existing resources.
- Designing and implementing customizations to the computer environment as required to meet the needs of the Children's Hospital User Community.
- Preparing project schedules, presentations, recommendations, RFPs, technical summaries, status reports, and other project management reports.
- Participating in the budgeting process for all services and hardware. Working with Purchasing to negotiate with vendors for hardware and services. Documenting the cost of delivery of hardware and services.
- Recommending software acquisitions to meet projected demands. Performing product evaluations and trials as part of a continuing effort to improve productivity of existing software.
- Identifying end user/application requirements as they relate to the computer systems environments in order to develop and execute a plan within project time frames.
- Maintaining computer system security. Keeping current on all published security warnings. Monitoring daily security audit trails for multiple systems. Informing management of any security breaches or holes in computer system security and proposing solutions.
- Coordinating efforts of institutional technical and engineering groups to specify and deliver services for personnel work area needs as necessary.
- Working closely with the Desktop Specialists, Applications Team Leaders, and Network Managers to resolve issues, and to set priorities and schedules.
To qualify you must have:
- Bachelor's Degree in the field of Computer science or closely related field is required
- 6 years of experience is required
- Proficient in core IT Infrastructure technologies including VMware infrastructure, Citrix platform, VDI, Dell EMC storage and other enterprise storage systems, enterprise backup technologies, Active Directory and Entra ID.
- Advanced knowledge in server hardware, networking, storage technologies, and software-defined data center (SDDC).
- Experience with scripting such as PowerShell, PowerCLI, etc.) and automation
- Proven knowledge in security best practices, vulnerability management, threat management, healthcare compliance, and incident response.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication skills to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions, or well-developed writing skills. knowledge to develop and implement flexible processes and solutions for routine and ad hoc tasks.
- Ability to function in a dynamic environment subject to changes in schedules and priorities
