The Landfill Supervisor position is responsible for coordinating landfill operations and employees to ensure that performance goals are met while maintaining compliance with the EPA. Landfill Supervisors hire, train, coach, evaluate, counsel, and manage the performance of the landfill staff with an emphasis on safety and productivity. Landfill Supervisors help to ensure environmental safety and compliance are met while maintaining productivity.

Days: Monday - Friday

Hours: 5:00 pm - 5:00 am

Responsibilities of Position:



  • Under the direction of management, direct the daily activities of landfill staff.
  • Ensures all work/equipment operation performed by staff is completed in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Manages the landfill staff, including hiring, training, scheduling work assignments, performance management, discipline, and authorization of overtime.
  • Performs timely performance reviews for employees under direct supervision, recommends disciplinary actions and completes all other required documentation relating to assigned personnel.
  • Maintain the landfill to meet requirements for EPA inspections.
  • Work with landfill staff to ensure established production and quality control standards are met.
  • Monitor and enforce quality and safety standards and ensure all compliance goals are met or exceeded.
  • Oversees operation of trash fill, site, and/or construction areas and completes necessary daily reports.
  • Track certifications of landfill staff and provides training as needed.
  • Continuously monitor the equipment to ensure proper operation and minimal down time.
  • Professional interaction with internal and external customers.
  • Proficiently ensure all operating and labor tasks assigned are complete.
  • Ensure employee's daily log sheets are filled out correctly and accurately.
  • Assures completion of operator observation forms timely.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:



  • Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with others.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (prolonged physical exertions, including sitting, standing, reaching, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing).
  • Ability to operate all landfill equipment proficiently.
  • Must be able to read and understand landfill plans.
  • Must be familiar with EPA requirements regarding landfill operations.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with all employees, co-workers, and management.
  • Must be dependable, a self-starter, and able to identify and perform daily operational requirements.



Physical Requirements in a Regular workday:



  • Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 200lbs. Occasionally up to 75lbs.
  • Continuously working outside in changing temperature, wet/humid conditions.
  • Frequently working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, other airborne matter.
  • Frequently sitting/standing/walking in office & landfill environment.



Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:



  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
  • Ability to travel between offices, as required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours; overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Valid driver's license (if applicable).
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language.

Qualifications
Education
High School (required)
General Education Diploma (preferred)
Experience
Computer experience preferred. (preferred)
Construction background a plus. (preferred)
Surveying and GPS experience. (preferred)
Previous foreman or management experience. (preferred)
3 years: Landfill experience or equivalent. (preferred)
5 years: Prior experience operating heavy equipment (preferred)
