Department: Alice Kaplan Institute for the Humanities
Fellowship in Humanities Program Administration
The Kaplan Fellowship in Humanities Program Administration is a two-year position (with possibility of contract renewal) as a full-time staff member in the Kaplan Humanities Institute at Northwestern University. The fellow will gain significant experience in the creation and administration of a unique set of humanities programs, with a concentration on Kaplan's undergraduate initiatives. The Institute seeks a dependable, hard-working candidate who is interested in making creative, collaborative, and meaningful contributions to the humanities at Northwestern and beyond.
The fellow will serve as lead coordinator for the Kaplan Humanities Scholars Program (KHSP). KHSP currently offers first-year undergraduates a set of team-taught humanities courses in the fall, which include multiple off-campus experiential learning opportunities and a multi-day preorientation program in September. The fellow will partner with team members at the forefront of this initiative to develop and pilot new courses and other academic programs under the KHSP umbrella.
The fellow is expected to travel and manage onsite logistics for all Kaplan excursions throughout the year, which may include international travel (travel expenses and per diem are provided by Kaplan). Additionally, this role oversees all program admissions processes, marketing and promotions, outreach, and other tasks, as needed.
As part of a dynamic team of accomplished humanities educators and advocates at the Institute, the fellow reports to and is primarily mentored by the Kaplan Associate Director. The fellow will have access to professional development resources and will be invited to represent Northwestern at national humanities advocacy events.
Preference will be given to recent Northwestern PhDs in the humanities and humanistic social sciences (PhD conferred or to be conferred between spring 2023-fall 2025). Please provide a cover letter that explains your interest in the position, your CV that includes any relevant work experience, the names of two references, the name of your advisor, and a one-page research statement.
