Internship projects vary depending on the needs of both the student and the business. Haemonetics interns are assigned to a meaningful project within the company to acquire a variety of experiences, try different skills, and learn what a future career might offer while also contributing to our innovation agenda by completing business-critical projects and assignments. The Research and Development (R&D) Blood Lab and Scientific Services Internship will be located onsite 3 days/2 days remote per week in our downtown Boston HQ located at 125 Summer St.

The projects for the internship fall under Blood laboratory and Scientific Services. Depending on the candidate's background- life science or engineering, and interest, the candidate will be assigned to a combination of projects in blood laboratory and/or scientific services.

For the blood lab projects, the candidate will learn appropriate laboratory techniques and procedures to work with blood samples and multiple laboratory equipment, including a hematology analyzer, TEG devices, and a flow cytometer. Two main projects include characterization of particle influx into our next generation of plasma collection bowl. During this project, the candidate will learn to work with a flow cytometer analyzer to detect and enumerate fluorescent particles. During the second project, the intern will learn techniques to work with blood samples, to operate a clinical hematology analyzer and TEG analyzers. This project relates to the optimization of our Platelet Mapping Cartridge. The intern will work under the supervision of a PhD level scientist, and depending on the project's timeline, would concentrate on one or both projects.

The project under the Scientific Services team will encompass both biocompatibility and sterilization. The project will consist of the creation of a qualified materials database for several of our product platforms. The intern will learn about biocompatibility and sterilization in the medical device field, including but not limited to regulations, standards, and testing requirements.

What You Will Do:

* Prepare a report describing the results of particle counting with NextGen plasma bowl.

* Prepare a report describing the test result and data analysis for platelet mapping experiments.

* Create a qualified materials database for several of our product platforms.

* May help to write justification for biocompatibility and sterilization under the guidance of the Senior Toxicologist and Senior Microbiologist

* Create an internship presentation to share experience and knowledge gained at Haemonetics.

Education/Skills:

* Undergraduate or MS program in relevant engineering discipline such as Biomedical or Scientific Studies.

* Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Self-directed and able to work without supervision

* Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas
