Dynavax is a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company developing and commercializing novel vaccines to help protect the world against infectious diseases. Our proprietary CpG 1018 adjuvant powers our diversified infectious vaccine portfolio, which includes HEPLISAV-B, our commercial product approved in the U.S. and the European Union, for prevention of hepatitis B virus in adults. We also supply CpG 1018 to research collaborations and partnerships globally. Currently, CpG 1018 is being used in development of COVID-19, plague, shingles, and Tdap vaccines.

The Senior System Administrator responsibilities are to maintain the Dynavax production systems infrastructure including the operation, design, on-going maintenance and enhancements to company servers, databases, communication systems, storage, virtual and cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • System Design & Implementation:
  • Design, implement, and maintain information systems architecture to support business needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify system requirements, specifications, and capabilities.
  • Integrate hardware, software, network, and security systems into cohesive solutions.
System/Database Performance & Optimization:
  • Monitor information systems and databases, identify potential issues, and implement optimization strategies to maximize performance and uptime.
  • Continuously evaluate system resources and recommend improvements to ensure scalability and efficiency.
Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution:
  • Identify and resolve issues related to hardware, software, networking, and system performance.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for end-users and IT teams.
  • Proactively diagnose system failures and provide timely resolutions to ensure smooth operation.
Security Management:
  • Implement and enforce security measures to protect information systems from internal and external threats.
  • Work with the security team to conduct vulnerability assessments and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and availability across systems.
System Integration & Maintenance:
  • Work with other members of the infrastructure teams to integrate new technologies, applications, and system upgrades into the existing infrastructure.
  • Perform regular system maintenance tasks such as backups, software updates, and patch management.
  • Ensure compatibility of software with both existing and future hardware systems.
Collaboration & Documentation:
  • Collaborate with other IT members and departments to ensure alignment between systems and business objectives.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, architectures, administration, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Provide training and technical support to users to enhance system usability.
Project Management:
  • Lead or support projects related to the development, implementation, or upgrade of information systems.
  • Ensure timely and cost-effective completion of system projects, following best practices and organizational policies.
Qualifications
  • Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, a related field, or relevant industry experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in information systems engineering or IT infrastructure roles, including system administration, cloud platforms, and enterprise IT infrastructure.
  • Experience managing changes through regulatory controlled methods.
Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in system design, architecture, and troubleshooting across diverse technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL database administration.
  • Management of enterprise operating systems (Windows, Linux) in server and desktop environments.
  • 5+ years working with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, KVM).
  • Solid understanding of network protocols.
  • Proficient in scripting or automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash).
Security & Compliance:
  • Familiarity with industry regulations and compliance standards (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST SP 800-53, GDPR, CCPA).
Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills:
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to analyze complex systems and resolve technical issues.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Communication & Collaboration:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and assist users across the organization.
Other:
  • Ability to sit; stand; walk; reach with arms and hands; lift and move small objects; and use hands to keyboard and perform other office related tasks including repetitive movement of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Occasional travel required, as needed.
The estimated salary range for this position is $143,000 to $162,000. Final pay determinations may depend on various factors, including, but not limited to experience level, education, geographical location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position also includes other compensation elements such as stock equity awards and participation in our Company's discretionary annual bonus program. Dynavax also offers a full range of health and welfare insurance benefits, 401(k) company match, and paid time off benefits, including 17 paid holidays in 2025.
