The GSC R&D Color group is seeking a Group Leader to manage and support the Color Initiatives maintenance of business and new product development. This position will be responsible for the direction and leadership of approximately 6 direct reports within the Color group and be responsible for managing and developing projects to support GSC Product Technology and Commercialization groups and other stake holders with the respective color initiatives.

Job duties include contact with other employees and access to confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. Responsibilities include:

1. Support Business Needs



  • Works with Manager and Associate Director to plan color work
  • Responsible for Color support of PSG North America and Latin America.
  • Works cross divisionally with PCG for support of P&M and Industrial wood color support.
  • Works closely with Latin America Marketing to prioritize and complete projects.
  • Coordinates work and resources to meet timelines
  • Manages team of technicians, chemists, and IT color data specialists to complete color development work and color software update deliver to POS.
  • Provides status updates and attends business meetings
  • Works with Manager and product commercialization teams in developing strategies and implementing programs such as, Base Alignment programs for North America and Base Alignment programs and processes for Latin America.
  • Identifies opportunities for Continuous Improvement and leads projects to implement


2. Communication



  • Communicates projects and tasks to team members
  • Communicates timelines and priorities to team
  • Provides status updates to Manager, AD and Sales & Marketing
  • Works with others outside of team to gather information for project scoping


3. Safety



  • Follows guidelines of 5S, HKE and other safety rules
  • Attends Safety Meetings and completes make-ups when absent
  • Takes corrective action when a safety issue is identified
  • Presents safety topics at team meetings
  • Ensures staff is trained and follows guidelines
  • Ensures office and lab areas are kept up to standards


4. Individual & Team Development



  • Seeks out and takes opportunities to learn and grow
  • Networks with others outside of team and department
  • Builds business knowledge through formal and informal learning/training
  • Sets team and individual objectives
  • Conducts Performance Appraisals
  • Focuses on the development of individuals and the team

BASIC QUALIFICATION:
* Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).

FORMAL EDUCATION:
Required:
* Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics ("STEM") field

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
Required:
* Must have at least 1 year of supervisory or project management experience
* Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
* High level of initiative and leadership ability
* Proven problem-solving / decision-making ability

Preferred:
* Minimum of 3 years of Color Formulation or related field
* Paint/Coatings experience is preferred
* Experience in delegating work and responsibilities is preferred
* Understanding of/Experience within Sherwin-Williams business units

TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
* Computer Proficiency
* Ability to analyze data
* Ability to plan project timelines and allocate resources

Preferred:
* Strong computer skills (MS Applications including Access)
* Understanding of Color/Color Science

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
10%

Upon completion of construction, the individual selected for this role will primarily work at the new Sherwin-Williams Global Technology Center in Brecksville, Ohio. Construction is expected to be complete in 2025. Until then, the role will be based at Breen Technology Center, located at 601 Canal Road, Cleveland, OH 44113.
