About the Department of Health Management and Policy

The Department of Health Management and Policy aims to improve the health of individuals and populations and reduce health inequities through a focus on institutions, systems, and policies that affect health. Our public health research and teaching examines the roles and impacts of public health policy, the health care system, and governmental public health agencies and their partner organizations at national, state, and local levels. This includes a commitment to addressing racism as a force that underlies health inequities and the importance of antiracist strategies to reduce inequities. The department's academic programs include an MPH and a PhD in health services research and policy. Broadly, our academic programs seek to ground students in management and policy principles that apply to public health practice, public health policy, and health services and systems. This includes the ways that government policies affect the health of communities and the application of management and policy-making skills.
