Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Program Administrator for the Kinesiology & Health department within the School of Arts and Sciences. The Senior Program Administrator serves as the Head Academic Advisor for the Department of Kinesiology and Health ( DKH).

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Advises over 1400 declared/undecided majors and minors in Exercise Science and Sport Management on the course selection and registration processes and supporting students in attaining their educational and career goals.
  • Conducts events and seminars to educate and attract new students to the department.
  • Supervises a part-time Academic Advisor, and will train and manage this part-time position to accomplish day-to-day advising tasks.
  • Works closely with the department Chair, Vice Chairs, Undergraduate Academic Director, and faculty.
  • Creates more efficient and productive processes for students, faculty and staff, such as the development of new electronic systems.
  • Oversees the day-to-day advising, as well as develop new programs and resources focused on student learning and supporting students in attaining their educational and career goals, and maintaining relationships with other Academic Departments within the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in student counseling, college student personnel, psychology, social work, education, higher education administration, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience working as an Academic Advisor at the collegiate level.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and understanding of first year and probation student populations and programs, student development and counseling theories and applications, and workshop design and presentation.
  • Ability to fairly and effectively manage an Academic Advisor.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate with all levels of employees within the organization.
  • Ability to adhere to schedules and office procedures.
  • Demonstrated organizational ability and strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Rutgers computing programs including IMS and Degree Navigator. Experience with student services.
  • Experience working with both freshman and transfer students.
  • Comfort and familiarity with social media platforms (blogging, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) to facilitate communication efforts with students and departmental outreach to the community.

Equipment Utilized


  • IMS, Microsoft Office Suite, Sakai, WebNow, lmageNow, MyAdvisor, and Degree Navigator are used in a daily capacity in desktop, laptop, and mobile platforms.
  • Various customized databases are used daily, including the re- enrollment database.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be able to walk up and down stairs and carry up to 25lbs.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends.
