Job Description Summary

The Associate Director of Student Affairs plays a vital role in supporting the mission of the Student Affairs department and the Law School. This position provides leadership and oversight for various student-facing programs and services, with a focus on student engagement and satisfaction. The Associate Director serves as a key advisor and resource for student organizations, providing guidance, support, and advocacy. This role also collaborates effectively with faculty and staff to foster a positive and inclusive student experience. The Associate Director serves as a backup in the absence of the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Leads in the development and implementation of Student Affairs programming on topics such as wellness, leadership, and community-building, and assesses programs and services for opportunities to increase student engagement, personal development, and overall well-being.
  • Oversees student engagement, including all student organizations, their policies and procedures, leader training, policy and procedure review and maintenance, and new organization onboarding.
  • Reviews and approves student organization events, initiatives, and fundraisers, and advises the Student Bar Association in coordination with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.
  • Helps plan and execute Foundations Week (orientation), including online pre-orientation programming.
  • Assists with coordinating and implementing the Law School Hooding & Commencement ceremony and all related activities and events.
  • Leads the planning and execution of the annual Law School Awards Ceremony.
  • Aids in the administration of various assessments, such as the Law School Survey of Student Engagement (LSSSE) and the Fall Assessment of Student Engagement and Satisfaction (FASES) and assists in analyzing and communicating results to relevant constituencies.
  • Serves as a primary advisor to the Wake Forest Law Ambassadors.
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff to address student needs and concerns, promoting a seamless and supportive learning environment.
  • Serve as a backup to the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, assuming responsibilities in their absence.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Functions:

  • Represent the Student Affairs office on various Law School and University committees such as the Graduate & Professional Student Collaboration Group.
  • Stay abreast of current trends and best practices in student affairs.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Juris Doctor or Master's degree in higher education, counseling, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in student affairs or a similar role.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with relevant technology (e.g., Google Workspace) and demonstrated ability to leverage technology to solve problems and create efficiencies.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of student development theory and best practices.
  • Experience with crisis management and intervention.
  • Familiarity with assessment and evaluation methods in student affairs.

Accountabilities:

  • Promote a positive and inclusive student experience.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Adhere to Law School and University policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the Student Affairs department.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift objects up to 25 lbs.

  • Typical office environment.
