Position Summary

The Maidana Lab in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago focuses on investigating the role of retinal microglia and peripheral monocytes in photoreceptor cell death and vision loss. We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow who is interested in translational eye research. The fellow will study the molecular events of retinal neuroinflammation using preclinical models of photoreceptor cell death. This position is available immediately. The position will start hourly for an initial period of three months. Full-time opportunities will be discussed after.

Duties & Responsibilities

Research
  • Work collaboratively with Principal Investigator, other researchers, and key personnel to meet research objectives.
  • Conduct translational research using in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo murine models of disease
  • Perform laboratory experiments and collect, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Analyze scientific literature and evaluate current research results.
  • Maintain an updated lab notebook and data repository
  • Assist with ordering lab supplies and maintaining laboratory stock and inventories

    Communication
  • Disseminate original research results in peer-review journals and present the findings at national/international scientific conferences
  • Prepare papers, presentations, abstract creation, grant applications, and other documents.
  • Complete required documentation for regulatory agencies and funders.
  • Develop project updates and brief reports for public announcements.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications
    MD or PhD
    To qualify under this classification, candidates must have obtained their terminal degree within the five-year period from 2020 to 2025.
