What Your Job Will Be Like:

Join our Facilities Engineering team as a Fire Protection Engineer at Jefferson Lab.You will be responsible for a broad range of duties in accomplishing the design and modification of various facility fire protection systems including initiating design and review for work performed by Architect Engineering (A-E) firms.The fire protection systems include but are not limited to wet sprinkler systems, pre-action dry sprinkler systems, specialized suppression systems, and fire detection/alarm systems.You will serve as design manager for major various site fire protection projects and provide fire protection engineering support for capital projects and site fire protection systems working with the Fire Marshal and fire technicians.

In this role you will:


  • Develop plans, specifications and cost estimate for building renovations, new building designs and independent fire protection systems.
  • Prepare Scope of Work documents, design estimates and technical support fees and provide contract oversight of Architect-Engineer resources to perform engineering designs and studies and produce construction documents.
  • Provide fire protection engineering support in the development of requirements for capital projects including conceptual project development, preliminary and full designs and cost estimates.
  • At times serve as the Technical Representative (TR) during construction for fire protection systems projects. Responsible for quality assurance inspections, project personnel, budget, and implementation schedule management as well as project safety. Acts to correct discrepancies and resolve technical issues.
        • Participate in the development of a prioritized list of backlog projects to improve or maintain fire protection system reliability. This should have a 5-10 year outlook at a minimum and should also include system replacement when beyond expected service life. Align efforts with the Operations Fire Marshal and the Department Planning Group.
        • Participate in the execution of fire protection system Condition Assessments. Ensure the asset profile for the system is accurately captured in the Condition Assessment Information System (CAIS) and Maximo software. Align efforts with FM&L Department Planning Group in accomplishing this task.

        Qualifications We Require:


        • Bachelor's degree in Engineeringfrom an accredited college or university
        • 10 or more years engineering experience.Education above the minimum can be substituted for experience.
        • 3 or more years' experience being incharge of diverse fire protection engineering work

        Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:


        • Experience in the design of various commercial and industrial fire protection systems.
        • Comprehensive understanding of effective project management practices and principles and shows strengthin applying a disciplined approach to project management.
        • Ability to present and express ideas and information clearly and in a manner appropriate for the audience, facilitate the open exchange of information, and skillfully negotiates solutions with the customer, staff, subcontractors, and other agencies.

        Qualifications We Desire:


        • 3 or more years' experience being in charge of DOE-STD-1066-2016 9 diverse fire protection engineering projects.
          • Professional Engineer (PE) License PE registration in fire protection
