Purpose of Position
This position will have primary responsibility for developing and managing a portfolio of major gift prospects for the university, and for soliciting and closing gifts of $10K or more.
Primary Responsibilities

  • Solicit gifts of $10,000 or more in support of the university's priorities and objectives to raise a minimum of $500,000 in support per year. Prepare for and conduct meetings to assess and identify new prospects and to cultivate, solicit, and close gifts from and steward existing prospects and donors. Document and maintain quality records in the donor database (Raiser's Edge NXT) adhering to all established reporting deadlines. Utilize university systems to record prospect and donor interactions, track proposals, and maintain prospect and donor contact information. Meet all deadlines for reporting.

  • Collaborate with prospect research, alumni relations and annual giving, and fellow major gift officers to develop and maintain a portfolio of prospects with the capacity and inclination to give at the leadership level. Leverage the work of central development teams to provide appropriate engagement opportunities for donors and prospects.

  • Work closely with donor relations to execute stewardship plans for assigned donors in a pledge payment cycle or with established funds or endowments. Ensure these donors maintain institutional affinity by facilitating relationships with the Dean and other key academic and staff partners on campus, and receive appropriate impact reporting on the use of their gifts.

  • Serve as the primary development liaison to one or more units of the university, as assigned, under the guidance and leadership of the Senior Director of Development, developing productive and collaborative relationships with the Dean(s) and other academic and staff leaders in the unit(s). Help to identify fundraising priorities and execute strategic development plans. Facilitate the appropriate participation of the Dean(s) in the development process as needed to cultivate, solicit and close gifts; serve as a resource to other gift officers whose prospects have an interest in support for assigned units.

Qualifications
A bachelor's degree and at least two years of direct solicitation experience is required.

A working knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications, including Teams, is required and knowledge of Raiser's Edge is a plus.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently are also required.

The successful candidate for this role will be intellectually curious, possess a positive growth mindset and a keen understanding of and passion for the value of higher education, and be able to translate the priorities of faculty and academic leadership into a compelling philanthropic vision.
