JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State Silicon Carbide Innovation Alliance (SCIA) https://scia.psu.edu/ invites applications for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher with expertise in materials science, chemical engineering, or a related STEM field. This role will focus on the development, characterization, and optimization of processes for silicon carbide (SiC) synthesis, supporting advanced research and innovation in semiconductor materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and optimize processes for SiC material synthesis, with a primary focus on Physical Vapor Transport Bulk Crystal growth.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis and characterization of SiC materials using advanced techniques such as XRD, SEM, TEM, Raman spectroscopy, and others.
  • Develop a fundamental understanding of the relationships between synthesis parameters,microstructure, and properties of SiC.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and industry partners to integrate research findingsinto scalable manufacturing processes.
  • Publish high-impact research articles and present findings at conferences and workshops.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in experimental techniques and dataanalysis.
  • Engage with industrial and academic partners to align research with emerging technological needs in SiC applications.

Qualifications:

  • A PhD in materials science, chemical engineering, physics, or a related STEM field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in SiC synthesis or other high-temperature materials processing.
  • Proficiency in materials characterization techniques and data interpretation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and experimental design skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented research environment.
  • Familiarity with the semiconductor industry and its material requirements.
  • Track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at professional meetings.
