Foley Lardner's Chicago office is looking for an experienced Assistant to join their Litigation practice group. The right candidate will provide legal assistance to attorneys in the daily operation of practicing law by providing quality work product for clients. The Assistant will also perform duties through the performance of complex administrative and clerical tasks and produce documents relating to specific functions and requirements as set forth within practice groups using the firm standard word processing and other applicable software. This person must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to interface with attorneys, clients, vendors, court personnel and other staff members. The Assistant must also have keen attention to detail and the ability to think critically and analytically while also prioritizing, multitasking and managing deadlines.



Responsibilities

    Prepare, revise, and format legal documents (e.g. pleadings, discovery, and motions)
  • Format and prepare documents for filing, including Table of Contents and Table of Authorities, and file and serve legal documents in state and federal courts (knowledge of e-filing and e-service is required)
  • Draft, revise, and transcribe attorney correspondence
  • Invoice and expense report review and processing through Chrome River
  • Assist the attorneys by researching court rules for state and federal courts in which the attorneys practice
  • Assist attorneys by providing complex administrative and clerical support including calendaring, scheduling, docketing, client communication, etc.
  • Receive and screen telephone calls, letters and/or visitors; answer routine questions and furnish information to inquiring parties
  • Schedule appointments and arrange for travel
  • Create, organize, maintain, and retrieve physical and electronic client, research, and administrative files utilizing NetDocs
  • Interact with co-workers and attorneys in other offices and persons at all levels in the firm, industry, and community
  • Greet attorney's clients and guests for meetings and appointments and ensure that all required materials are organized in advance
  • Interact with clients frequently by responding to their questions and obtaining information as required
  • Input Partner's time in Intapp time and record information
  • Anticipate attorney's needs and prepare necessary documentation in draft for attorney's review, including miscellaneous correspondence and client billing
  • Receive and redirect attorney requests and needs as appropriate to expedite solutions
  • Proofread all documents and check for appropriate formatting, spelling, and grammatical errors
  • Prepare documents and packages for mail, messenger and overnight delivery; ensure that all attachments, exhibits, and enclosures are intact
  • Manage incoming and outgoing mail and e-mail
  • Submit conflicts check(s) through OPEN
  • Enter new client-matter information in OPEN and prepare engagement letters
  • Back up other assistants within the team and/or department as needed


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years of litigation experience required
  • E-filing experience required
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel #LI

Pursuant to the Illinois Equity Pay Act the salary range for this Chicago based position is between $53,500 - $121,900. These figures represent the full compensation range of this position. The actual offered amount will be determined based on the following factors: education, experience, geographic market, and internal pay equity at Foley.-hybrid
