Spencer Construction is looking for highly organized, self-motivated people, with working knowledge and skills in the position applying to. The Heavy Civil Construction Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of construction projects, ensuring that work is completed safely, on time, and within budget. The Superintendent will be responsible for supervising multiple teams of workers, providing guidance and direction as needed, and ensuring that all work is completed in accordance with company policies and procedures. This role requires a highly experienced and motivated individual with a deep understanding of heavy civil construction methods, equipment, and safety protocols. Essential Job Functions:
- Project Planning and Coordination:
- Develop comprehensive project plans, including schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Coordinate with project stakeholders, including clients, engineers, architects, and subcontractors.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant permits, regulations, and industry standards.
- On-Site Management:
- Supervise and lead a team of construction professionals, including foremen, subcontractors, and laborers.
- Monitor daily construction activities to ensure adherence to project plans, specifications, and quality standards.
- Implement effective communication channels to keep all team members informed and aligned.
- Quality Assurance and Safety:
- Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, ensuring a safe working environment for all on-site personnel.
- Conduct regular inspections to verify work quality and compliance with project specifications.
- Take corrective actions as necessary to address quality or safety issues.
- Resource Management:
- Manage equipment, materials, and labor resources efficiently to meet project milestones and deadlines.
- Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.
- Train and develop foremen, craft workers, and laborers.
- Problem Solving and Conflict Resolution:
- Identify and address project challenges, making timely decisions to keep the project on track.
- Resolve conflicts among team members or with external stakeholders in a professional and diplomatic manner.
- Progress Reporting:
- Provide regular progress reports to senior management and project stakeholders, highlighting achievements, challenges, and upcoming milestones.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily logs, change orders, and as-built drawings.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
- Enforce safety policies and procedures and ensure that all workers are wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Conduct regular safety meetings and ensure that all workers are trained on safety procedures.
- Use proper lifting techniques to prevent injury.
- Report any unsafe conditions or hazards to management immediately.
- Oversee all aspects of construction projects from start to finish, ensuring that work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.
- Supervise multiple teams of workers, providing guidance and direction as needed.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that all work is completed in accordance with project specifications.
- Ensure that all work is completed in accordance with company policies and procedures, including safety procedures.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and ensure that all workers are trained on safety procedures.
- Enforce safety policies and procedures and ensure that all workers are wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Monitor and maintain inventory of equipment, tools, and materials, and ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and in good working order.
- Prepare and submit reports on project progress and budget status.
- Manage project schedules, including tracking progress, updating timelines, and identifying and addressing delays.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent work experience may be considered.
- Must be able to travel to all projects.
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical instructions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety procedures.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position operates at professional construction sites, requiring the ability to communicate with verbally others on site, in person and over the telephone, ability to read printed materials, signs and directions, stamina to maintain attention despite interruptions, ability to lift, push, pull, carry, handle or feel objects, supplies, tools, machinery and/or controls weighing up to 50 pounds and reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and/or ladders; balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift overhead, traverse around or otherwise position one's self around the required work and safety requirements to navigating and perform activities on various construction sites in a safe manner.
Will be required to work on project sites and operate vehicles, trailers, machinery, equipment and other tools within local, state and federal safety guidelines. This position operates in a professional field environment. The position requires working outside, frequently for long periods of time in all weather, including extreme hot and cold temperatures. While working, the employee might be exposed to various chemicals, vapors, pollutants, virus or other air-borne pathogens, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines and dust/debris.
