Job Responsibilities
- Provide leadership for the daily operations of the mill with primary emphasis on safety, environmental compliance, and production
- Manages production schedules to ensure that plant needs are meet.
- Oversees mill Quality Control and Safety
- Develops and executes improvement initiatives for quality, cost savings, development of personnel, efficiencies, and anything else required
- Develops and maintains well trained, motivated staff at adequate levels to meet production needs. Ensures cross training is utilized to prepare for vacations, unexpected vacancies, or promotions
- Monitors expenses to keep costs within budget and initiates corrective action procedures to bring costs in line where necessary
- Consistently works with the plant managers to establish good & positive communication and ensures coordination of appropriate paperwork flow to keep inventories accurate.
- Ensures good communication with purchasing to ensure maximum capacity of the mill is being utilized and production is meeting plant needs and deadlines on a consistent basis. Ensures corrective action is being taken on all issues pertaining to quality and shipping
- 10% travel as required
Qualifications
- At least 3 years operations experience with supervision of hourly employees required; 5 years of experience in Forestry business including manufacturing, sales and/or procurement preferred
- High school diploma required; Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred
- Safety, health and environmental awareness
- Ability to think quickly, critically, and rationally during tense situations
- Strong leadership skills, integrity and focus on customer service
- Ability to foster a team environment with coaching leading to employee development
- Strong time management, communication and organizational skills
- Mathematics ability for basic algebraic and geometric calculations
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Excel
