With a 45 year history, the Associated Clinic of Psychology (ACP) is known throughout the Twin Cities as a leader in preventing, diagnosing, and treating mental health issues. Our commitment to clients is to provide a comprehensive array of mental health services. ACP has several different divisions: clinic-based, nursing home-based, school-based and community-based services.

Our internship program is looking for qualified students for a 9+ month internship as a Mental Health Practitioner with our DBT Division. We are an adherent DBT program certified by the state of Minnesota. We offer adult and adolescent DBT, DBT for Substance Use Disorders, and PACED DBT for clients who need more repetition and a slower pace than our regular groups. We have three physical locations (Apple Valley, Minneapolis, and West St. Paul) and telehealth options available.

Structure of the Practicum

A structured orientation program that includes shadowing group and individual sessions, training in the Linehan adherent DBT model, completing intakes and sessions with supervisors and other licensed team members, recording sessions to review with supervisors, and a comprehensive list of directed independent study resources.

There are opportunities to complete diagnostic assessments, functional and symptom assessments, treatment plans, 1:1 DBT therapy, and skills coaching, and to teach mindfulness and DBT skills in weekly groups.

Our interns will develop experience by:


  • Following best practices standards of the program
  • Working with diverse populations and having an openness/awareness of their biases
  • Providing therapeutic services to individuals with complicated and/or suicidal behaviors
  • Possessing a willingness to receive feedback and promptly make changes
  • Having professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Being self-directed but willing to ask for assistance when needed
  • Completing documentation accurately, professionally, and in a timely manner
  • Demonstrating emotional intelligence and maturity and modeling appropriate boundaries
  • Having a basic knowledge of using technology (Zoom, EHR, email, telehealth, Google calendars)
  • Maintaining a minimum number of billable hours based on program requirements


Starting Pay: $15.97 hourly
