JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary: The Safety Technician plays a significant role in sustaining a culture of Safety at Brakebush. This position promotes company-wide compliance with all health and safety regulations by utilizing training, coaching and ongoing involvement in incidents to increase awareness and practice of safety objectives.

Essential Functions:



  • Organizes and facilitates new employee and compliance training on Safety topics to include Blood Borne Pathogens (BBP), Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT), fall protection, and First Aid/CPR. Coordinates training logistics and recordkeeping.
  • Maintains and implements Environmental Health Safety (EHS) programs to include lockout/tagout, Hazard Communications, PIT, and Hearing Conservation.
  • Conducts inspections throughout facility and on equipment, e.g. chain/sling/hoist.
  • Assists in accident/incident investigations.
  • Assistance with Workers Compensation claims and coordinating the return to work process


Required Qualifications:



  • Experience in an industrial environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to develop safety plans, update team members and speak articulately about investigation results, next steps, or decisions in stressful situations.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office Suite: will use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams (to conduct virtual training)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelors' or Associate degree in Occupational Safety (or related field) OR two plus years of experience in the safety industry OR two plus years of experience in a training role.
  • Experience in training coordination i.e. facilitate sessions to various group sizes and levels, find training materials, coordinate outside compliance trainers, vendors, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic safety practices and OSHA regulations.
  • Experience in a food processing or manufacturing facility
  • Knowledge of general First Aid and CPR
  • Strong administrative and program coordination skills


Supervisory Responsibility: No supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment: Wide variations in environment temperature (-10 freezer, 32-degree coolers, 40-degree plant, wet cold environment) noise, slippery floors and moving equipment.

Physical Demands: Position will include extensive standing at times, sitting, lifting, wearing factory required equipment while working in production, walking, visual, responding quickly to sounds and driving.

Position Type: This is an exempt position. This is a first shift position but requires training on second and third shifts as needed. Some weekend work required.

Travel: Some travel may be required for trainings and classes.
