JOB TITLE: Interventional Radiology Physician Assistant (IR PA)

WORK SCHEDULE: Days, Weekends required, Fulltime

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Interventional Radiology Physician Assistant (IR PA) works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team and is responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive care to patients receiving care in the Interventional Radiology department. He or she works with a multitude of specialists and providers on behalf of Interventional Radiology, serving as the clinical resource for other health care professionals, patients, and families. The IR PA obtains appropriate histories, performs physical examinations, orders diagnostic testing, develops care and treatment plans, and performs procedures in the Imaging department. Other activities are in support of patient/family education, staff education, unit activities, and psychosocial care of patients and families.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Patient Care: The PA will perform the following duties as they pertain to interventional radiology-related patient care and needs

1. Perform comprehensive and focused histories and physical examinations, as dictated by patient status.

2. Diagnose and manage patients, including formulating differential diagnoses and a plan of care.

3. Order, perform, supervise, and interpret diagnostic studies including laboratory studies, radiographic studies, and other tests appropriate for the known or suspected diagnosis.

4. Prescribe medications, durable medical equipment, and advanced therapeutic interventions.

5. Assess patients undergoing interventional radiology procedures, making recommendations and adjustments to the plan of care as appropriate. Assessment includes daily and long term progress goals as dictated by patient needs and status.

6. Document assessment, findings, and plan of care.

7. Use specialized skills to perform procedures

8. Provide health promotion, disease prevention, heath education, and counseling.

9. Collaborate and communicate with members of the interprofessional team.

10. Assess, educate, and provide referrals for the patient, family and caregiver.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

1. Graduate of an AMA accredited Physician Assistant Program.

2. Maintains current NCCPA (National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants) Certification by CME every 2 years and recertifies every 6 years by examination.

3. Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the District of Columbia.

4. A valid DEA registration and DC controlled substances registration must be obtained and maintained during employment.

Salary Range: Minimum 57.99 per hour - Maximum 89.88 per hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
