PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Review and maintain patient billing accounts.

Job Description

CORE FUNCTIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Responsible for totaling, batching and entering into Epic billing system charges for physician activity.
  • Ensure all charge slips are completed correctly and timely.
  • Review all registration forms and charge slips through Epic system.
  • Review explanation of benefits received to ensure proper payment from the Insurance Company.
  • Review payments, attach to billing charge slips and send to CBO.
  • Follow-up rejected or underpaid claims, as follow-up with CBO.
  • Remain current and knowledgeable regarding all insurer and regulatory changes (includes Medicare, Medicaid, and Managed Care Programs with whom department participates).
  • Handle telephone billing inquiries from patients and CBO.
  • Handle inquiries from CBO concerning billing inquiries,
  • Work with physicians to ensure proper patient account write off.
  • Review and maintain all patient registration for current insurance coverage.
  • Answer all billing questions when patient inquires on site.
  • Periodic review of accounts receivables for all practice locations, follows up as necessary:
  • Completes paperwork for patient or third party refunds.
  • Reviews/resolves problematic accounts. Handles patient complaints regarding unresolved billing issues, coordinates account handling with manager.
  • Recommends departmental collection procedures modification or enhancements.
  • Follow-up on returned mail. Telephone patients, etc to update any registration information. Accesses hospital database for information.
  • Collects data, prepares reports and complies statistical data from Epic billing system for accounts receivable analysis.
  • Maintain service orientation with staff, patients, and the public.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
  • Review all registration reports.
  • Fill in for staff in other divisions when out sick/vacation.
  • Contact physicians regarding timely completion of billing forms.
  • Other duties as assigned.
