Snowflake Administrator

The Snowflake Administrator is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and supporting the Snowflake data cloud platform. The role performs routine maintenance tasks and ensures system support, maintenance, administration, and process improvement for Snowflake components such as databases, data warehouses, and associated integrations. The role also carries out tasks required for setting up the Snowflake environment for installation, configuration, updates, and migration of data and applications.

  • Administer user accounts, roles, and permissions to ensure secure and efficient access to the environments.
  • Design and maintain the structure of databases, schemas, and tables within Snowflake to ensure data is organized and accessible for various business needs.
  • Set up and manage data sharing capabilities within Snowflake to facilitate secure data exchange between different departments or external partners.
  • Continuously monitor the performance of the Snowflake environment, optimizing queries and workloads.
  • Oversee the scheduling and execution of data loading and ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) processes to ensure data is accurately and efficiently ingested into Snowflake from various sources.
  • Configure and manage Snowflake virtual warehouses to ensure optimal performance and cost efficiency, adjusting warehouse sizes, clusters and settings based on workload requirements.
  • Implement and manage backup and restore procedures to ensure data integrity and availability, performing regular backups and testing restore processes to prepare for potential data loss scenarios.
  • Enforce security policies and implement encryption mechanisms to protect sensitive data within Snowflake, ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory security standards.
  • Identify and resolve issues related to the Snowflake environment, providing technical support and troubleshooting assistance to users and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and manage costs within Snowflake, implementing strategies to optimize consumption and storage costs and ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for Snowflake configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Conduct regular health checks and audits to ensure system stability and compliance.
  • Work closely with Agile teams (developers, data engineers, etc.) on initiatives to help optimize data models, queries, and workflows, providing guidance on best practices for using Snowflake.
  • Ensure that the Snowflake environment complies with relevant regulatory and organizational standards, implementing necessary controls and processes to maintain compliance.
  • Automate routine tasks and processes, improving efficiency and reducing manual intervention.
  • Collaborate with IT and business teams to plan for future capacity needs.
  • Keep skills up to date on Snowflake and other cloud related technologies (Azure, etc.).
  • Collaborates with DevOps to utilize procedures and tooling (i.e., Azure DevOps, Terraform, etc.).


  • 0-5 years of experience in Snowflake Administration, Systems/IT Infrastructure or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, and/or commensurate experience.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.


Location

Hybrid defined as three (3) or more days per week in the office
