DIRECTOR, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

SUMMARY
The Director of Business Development improves the division's market position and achieves financial growth by increasing sales opportunities and thereby maximizes revenue. The position is responsible and accountable for the assigned region's financial performance and for the region achieving its sales target. This role defines long-term organizational strategic goals, builds key customer relationships, identifies business opportunities, negotiates and closes business deals while maintaining extensive knowledge of current market conditions. The role continues to build new and existing client relationships, often being required to make presentations on solutions and services that meet or predict their future needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
New Business Development

  • Prospect and acquire new customers within the respective region by networking, cold calling, using social media, and/or other means to ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities
  • Heavily involved in the strategic planning for division growth and development
  • Working closely with sales representatives, technical, project or other team members.
  • Locates and/or proposes potential business deals by contacting potential partners, discovering and exploring opportunities.
  • Develops proposals that speaks to the client's needs, concerns, and objectives.
  • Present new products and services and enhance existing relationships.
  • Work with technical staff and other internal colleagues to meet customer needs.
  • Arrange and participate in internal and external client debriefs.
  • Use knowledge of the market and competitors to identify and develop the company's unique selling propositions and differentiators

Business Development Planning

  • Attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends.
  • Present to and consult with mid and senior level management on business trends with a view to developing new services, products, and distribution channels.
  • Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop the company's unique selling propositions and differentiators.
  • Develops negotiating strategies and positions by studying integration of new venture with company strategies and operations; examining risks and potentials; estimating partners' needs and goals.
  • Prepare and present detailed technical proposals and quotations.
  • Establish, develop and maintain client relations to facilitate sales of products and services and provide a timely flow of all data required to accurately perform operations both pre and post job performance.
  • Prepare and submit activity reports and forecasts as required.
  • Consult with clients to assist in job planning, post job analysis, and offer technical advice and solutions where appropriate.
  • Implement and maximize usage of company CRM system in the region.
  • Keep abreast of new innovations in the industry through active participation in professional societies and ongoing educational opportunities.
  • Initiate and coordinate communications with other Core Lab divisions, including trade shows and conventions
  • Must obtain high proficiency in all Owen Product and Services
  • Work with Corporate Business Development for forecasting, upper level contacts and staff co- ordination.
  • Coordinate sales activities with other divisions.
  • Track business activity using industry resources.
  • Establish and monitor client sales assignments.

Management

  • Responsibility and oversight for managing sales team members.
  • Works with other Core Lab business units and Core Lab product lines.
  • Achieve sales targets and track sales and marketing activities for area of responsibility
  • Work with Product Line Managers to promote new technology and increase product line revenue in the region
  • Other duties, tasks, or projects as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, High School diploma or GED required.

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 10 years experience in the oil and gas industry
  • 10 years experience sales and business development experience.
  • Experience in a progressively challenging sales and/or business development role.
  • Ability to recognize NOC-related barriers to countries' market entries and evaluate associated risks.
  • Demonstrate capability to develop/implement inroads strategies and specific mitigating actions.
  • Capable of recommending go or no-go approach to senior management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Must have intimate knowledge of available market opportunities and understanding of current client operations in assigned market area
  • Demonstrable capability to think and execute at the strategic level. Must be able to understand client's problems and suggest a variety of Core Lab solutions
  • Must possess fundamental project management skills
  • Must possess intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, with emphasis in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proactive demeanor and have an enthusiastic approach to sales
  • Ability to interact effectively with client and company personnel
  • Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with many variables, in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record
  • Valid passport and able to travel at short notice.
