Timmons Group is currently seeking aStream Designer to join ourRichmond, VAoffice location.The Stream Designer will participate in all aspects of the restoration design process from initial feasibility investigations to detailed design and hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of restoration alternatives. Work will include a mixture of field work and collaborative design work as part of a team of engineers and scientists.The ideal candidate will add to an experienced team working on all aspects ofrestoration design, with opportunities to participate in stormwater design and advanced technical training.

This individual must be highly motivated, a self-starter; flexible, detail-oriented, enjoy interactingwith employees and clients; willing to work at a dynamic pace to complete tasks and meet deadlines;and share a commitment to our firm's vision, mission, and shared values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Participate in field work including but not limited to geomorphic assessments, benthic macroinvertebrate surveys, water quality sampling, stream and wetland delineations, stream flow analysis, and soil sampling.
  • Prepare stream restoration plans, specifications, construction estimates, and design reports.
  • Prepare various federal and state regulatory permits and assist in agency consultation for regulatory permitting.
  • Interpret analytical data for restoration projects to develop appropriate and applicable conclusions and recommendations.
  • Conduct post construction monitoring of stream and wetland restoration projects.
  • Perform construction inspection and oversight for the implementation of stream and wetland projects.

Skills/Requirementsof a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

  • Rosgen natural channel design and monitoring training through Wildland Hydrology, CVI or NC State Universities stream restoration program, are helpful
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred
  • Experience with TR-55, TR-20, and/or HEC-RAS
  • Ability and willingness to travel occasionally, typically within the region.
  • This position requires some field work and the ability to work outside, sometimes in inclement weather conditions, navigate on uneven terrain, carry equipment weighing up to approximately 15lbs.
  • This position requires office presence when not in the field

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related degree preferred
  • 2 years of stream restoration and stormwater management experience required
  • Previous relevant field work experience required
