Network Technician Summary:

Responsible for ensuring that telecommunications and data communications networks and systems meet the needs of the organization and customers. Provides technical leadership, analysis, expertise and guidance to Information Technology (IT) staff and internal customers. Develops systems, programs and processes to monitor and optimize network equipment to ensure that the company's systems meet IT standards. Resolves user and system issues. Evaluates response time, utilization and error data. Provides traffic analyses, capacity planning and network / system designs as required. Offers high-level input to facilitate development of network strategies, philosophy, direction and planning.

Network Technician Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Initiates evaluations, designing, planning and project management for networks systems.
  • Primary IT support for network installations and related issues at our sites. Travel is approximately 50%.
  • Performs all helpdesk service responsibilities associated with the computer services and network computing including installation, problem resolution and network integration.
  • Supports routine administration of operating systems including user account creation, monitoring, security and maintenance.
  • Recommends process improvement to ensure proper system usage.
  • Interfaces with other IT staff on operating environment, network integration, application support, configuration requirements, and process issues.
  • Provides functional guidance, training and confers with system users regarding problem resolution.
  • Installs, configures, and supports the LANs at our sites and components of the WAN.
  • Analyzes equipment performance records to determine the need for repair or replacement.
  • Assists other IT staff with administration of e-mail, anti-virus, helpdesk and other applications.
  • Coordinates with IT service providers and suppliers for related purchases.
  • Installs, configures, and maintains network hardware (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, and cabling).
  • Sets up and configures wireless networks and access points.
  • Ensures proper documentation of network configurations and changes.
  • Diagnose and resolve network issues, including connectivity, hardware, and software problems.
  • Performs routine maintenance to ensure network stability and security.
  • Monitors network performance and optimizes for efficiency and reliability.
  • Implements network security measures such as firewalls, encryption, and access controls.
  • Assists in identifying and addressing network vulnerabilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed.

Network Technician Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related discipline, and 4 years combined experience with Microsoft desktop and network technologies, or
  • Equivalent combination of above education and experience.
  • Microsoft technical certifications or equivalent experience.
  • Proven customer service ability and orientation.
  • Ability to travel approximately 50% of the time.
