Summary:

Directs coordinates and monitors the daily activities of interventional radiology services. Assumes lead role relative to interventional radiology including but not limited to directing patient scheduling inventory maintenance protocol development assist in quality initiatives etc. Performs interventional procedures including carotid and run-off arteriograms and other procedures of similar complexity in addition to performing routing diagnostic radiology procedures as needed. May provide services to patients of all ages including: infants children adolescents adults and geriatric patients.

Responsibilities:

Monitors maintains and assists with inventory management application.

Assists with development of departmental protocols and policies.

Ensures appropriate charges are applied reconciles daily charges for appropriateness.

Assists with employee reviews as needed.

Participates in employee interviews and on-boarding.

Keeps informed and educates staff and providers on the latest advances in interventional radiology.

Assists with daily staff and patient schedules.

Assists management with budgets and planning.

Demonstrates understanding of position description performance expectations and competency assessment plan.

Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to our Customer Service Standards.

Completes mandatory education:

Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.

Maintains current CPR certification.

Demonstrates ability to set up room angio trays and equipment utilizing aseptic techniques.

Preps patient for procedure to include shaving and draping.

Calculates and selects appropriate technical factors for high quality imaging.

Positions patient and places the filters on the table if needed.

Assists physician with gowning draping scrubbing and guidewire and catheter placement.

Demonstrates ability to operate and set parameters on power injector.

Demonstrates ability to send the images to PACS and the laser printer.

Prepares appropriate medications for exams according to protocols:

*Adult

*Geriatric

Demonstrates ability to set the parameters for subtraction imaging.

Ensure Consent Form has been obtained/signed.

Sets up and utilizes immobilization devices for:

*Adults

*Geriatrics

Circulates providing radiologists with proper catheters guidewires etc. upon demand.

Assists nursing personnel with patient monitoring and other activities as necessary.

Troubleshoots equipment failures.

Sets up oxygen and suction as needed.

Assists radiologists with abscess drainage needle biopsies nephrostomy tube placements and other complex procedures.

Washes cleans and sends instruments to Central Supply.

Prepares laboratory and equipment (cleaning with proper hospital disinfectants) for next scheduled procedure.

Makes requests and stocks required supplies.

Trains of assists in training new staff members.

Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of assigned area.

Calls service and logs data for equipment as needed.

Apply post procedure dressing as needed.

Other information:

Qualifications:

High school graduation or equivalent and satisfactory completion of formal radiologic technology training of two years duration. American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) registered and licensed by the State of Rhode Island. At least 2 years experience as a Radiologic Technologist in interventional radiology and diagnostic radiology. Current CPR certification.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to stand/walk 3-7 hours squat 1-3 hours per day with frequent bending and twisting and lift 10-35 lbs with good body mechanics. Must be able to use both hands/wrists with extensive deviation and frequent fine motor movement with repetition. Near/far vision accurate at 20/40 and moderate depth perception with minimal color discrimination. Must hear whisper at three feet.
