Summary: Assigns coordinates and monitors the daily activities in assigned Ultrasound Imaging section to ensure standards of patient care are met. Performs all duties of a sonographer serving as a clinical resource to all sonogrpaher assigned to this area. Provides Sonography services to patients of all ages including: infants children adolescents adults and geriatric patients. Assists with development of ultrasound imaging protocols.
Assists with performance and documentation of weekly Quality Assurance program.
Assists with orientation and training of new staff members.
Performs ultrasound services to patients of all ages.
Practices aseptic techniques and infection control procedures.
Conducts visual checks of equipment prior to each use to ensure safe condition.
Introduces self to patient confirms patient*s name date of birth and exam to be done. Prior to exam on in-house patients check order in POM; private patient check for request form.
Explains procedure to the patient:
- Explains exam to adult

Performs routine abdominal gallbladder renal aorta and spleen exams.

Provides technical assistance to surgeons/radiologists for:
- Vacuum assisted breast biopsies
- Liver biopsies
- Paracentesis/Thoracentesis
- Cyst aspirations
- FNA Thyroid/Breast Biopsy
Performs routine pelvic ultrasounds on:
- Adults
- Adolescents
- Children
Performs obstetrical studies on adults and adolescents to include:
- Single gestation
- Multiple gestation
- Transvaginal
- Translabial
Assists obstetrician with amniocentesis for single and/or multiple gestation using Indigo Carmen Dye.
Performs small part studies on:
- Breast
- Thyroid
- Testicle
Operates ultrasound equipment with Doppler and Vascular Capabilities:
- Ultrasound Portable Machine
- PVR Machine
Performs the following vascular studies:
- Venous studies
- Vein mappings and graft surveillance
- Doppler and color Doppler venous/arterial studies
- Carotid and subclavian arterial studies
- Doppler upper and lower extremities
- Pressure volume studies
Performs Foley catheterization using sterile technique on:
- Adult
- Child
- Geriatric patient
Provides radiologists with preliminary interpretation and reviews each case with radiologists.
Sets up room and equipment appropriately.
Monitors patient*s condition during examinations.
Utilizes color printer camera for imaging and demonstrates ability to:
- Load film and cartridge
- Trouble shoot errors
Performs check on department crash cart and defibrillator
Demonstrates competency in using digital PACs system for viewing retrieving and merging images
Demonstrates ability to use/trouble shoot Teleradiology and RIS systems
Stocks and cleans work area.
Performs all office functions to include RIS order entries and scheduling.
QA*s and verifies patients in the RIS. Other information: High school graduation or equivalent and satisfactory completion of allied health training program and two years of ultrasound experience in a clinical setting. ARDMS registration required for experienced Sonographer new graduates must obtain ARDMS registration within 6 months of new hire date. Current CPR certification. Must be able to sit stand and walk1-3 hours lift 50 lbs with good body mechanics twist and bend frequently. Must be able to use both hands/wrists and perform work with extensive deviation pinching and frequent fine motor skills. Far and near vision must be accurate at 20/20 with accurate depth perception able to discriminate between red-green and blue-violet. Must hear whisper at 20 feet.
