Job Description

*Position until October 2025, with the possibility of becoming permanent*

Evaluates and inspects to applicable standard procedures, and criteria, and makes minor adaptations and modifications. Performs a project assignment that involves complex features and can be guided by codes, standards, and other precedents of the discipline; analyzes and/or evaluates the results of an inspection using techniques prescribed applicable TMs and standards; and accomplishes tasks of which require investigation of many variables.

Duties and Responsibilities


* Provides NDT support in the area of large and small caliber weapon systems, wheeled and tracked vehicles, and/or materials with assigned responsibility within the subject matter field for providing detailed analysis and evaluation for a variety of test items.
* Such projects and problems are characterized by the need to establish and assess the safety and/or condition of the test item, to verify proof acceptance criteria, and to provide reliable test support.
* Such work requires knowledge of at least one of the major NDT methods (MT, ET, RT, UT) and NAS-410 certification.
* Follows standard inspection procedures, develops new procedures (when necessary), knowledge of material characteristics; especially as related to weapon systems and vehicles, evaluates possible approaches and methods to use; devises, modifies, performs or directs inspections; evaluates and interprets data and prepares written report which summarizes the test methods, and provides recommendations and conclusions.
* Develop and perform NDT evaluation methods for large caliber proof acceptance tests, develop methods to determine the adequacy, correct type and method for inspecting small caliber weapon systems, and determining inspection method requirements for unique test items.
* Evaluates new instruments, equipment, and material in specialty area, including those which may automate methods currently performed manually, for use by this activity and which may influence data presented and testing work performed at other proving grounds, other commands, other services, and the like.
* Evaluates tests and methods in the specialty area to determine deficiencies and need or useful improvement and to effect efficiencies.
* Determines instrumentation, equipment, and system requirements and provides input to the activity plan for acquisition of new instrumentation, equipment and materiel, and modernization of existing items.
* Prepares and updates specifications, standards and procedures.
Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications

* Must have 5 yr. of applicable experience or at least 60 credit hours or an Associate's Degree and 3 yrs. applicable experience; or 30 credit hours and 4 yrs. applicable experience; or completion of a formal training program and 3 yrs. applicable experience; or a Bachelor's Degree and 1 year applicable experience.
* Shall possess basic computer skills.
* Shall possess National Aerospace Standard-410 (NAS-410) certification.
* Shall possess a license to operate forklift(s) and other required support equipment.
* Shall possess Overhead Bridge Crane Operator License.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

* The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment and sometimes in the field where you are subject to the environment.
* Must be capable of sitting and entering data on a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
* Must be able to view computer monitor for extended periods of time.
* Must be capable of lifting 100 lbs. unassisted.
* Must be capable of frequent squatting, crouching, and stooping.
* Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.

Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements

* Must be a U.S. Citizen.
* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
* Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions.
* Must pass a pre-employment drug screening periodic retest.
* Must be able to successfully complete a background screening.
* Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.

Rate of Pay/Benefits

Hourly Rate: $48.21
