About the Opportunity
We are searching for 4 motivated and tech-savvy college students to join our IT team as a Technology Support Interns. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience in IT support, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and supporting end-users across our organization. This internship offers the opportunity to build foundational skills in technical support and gain practical experience in a fast-paced environment.

These positions will work 20 hours/week on site at the UNC System Office in downtown Raleigh or at PBS North Carolina in the Research Triangle Park (RTP). The internship runs from January 2025 through May of 2025 with a possibility to extend through December 2025 if schedules permit.

Day to day responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide the setup and installation of computer hardware and software
  • Troubleshoot user-problems and errors related to computer hardware and software
  • Respond to support requests via email, phone, and in-person with a strong focus on customer service and timely resolution
  • Document and track support requests using ticketing software, ensuring accurate and timely updates
  • Conduct routine maintenance on IT equipment and assist with inventory management
  • Support onboarding activities for new hires
  • Provide use and setup of video and teleconferencing and multimedia equipment
  • Follow Active Directory group policy administration
  • Provide Windows file services access control group management
  • Support System Office intranet update assistance
  • Provide Level 1 Virtual Desktop Support

About the Team
The Information Technology division works collaboratively with UNC constituent institutions to help ensure efficient and cost-effective integration of new technologies that meet common and unique needs of the 17 institutions. The division is also charged with managing the highly complex enterprise-wide data modernization efforts that will enable the System to better monitor, evaluate, and manage our enterprise; as well as facilitate timely comparisons across the 17 institutions and create better data-sharing capabilities for smarter and more efficient data-driven decisions.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in the field of technology related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Competencies
* Currently enrolled in a college or university program, pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
* Basic understanding of operating systems (Windows, macOS) and troubleshooting common technical issues.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer-focused approach.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
* Familiarity with IT support tools and ticketing systems is a plus.
