Job Objective: To represent The Salvation Army by ringing bell at assigned kettle location in order to raise needed funds for theservices provided to individuals and families.


Essential Functions:

  • Ring the bell continuously while stationed at the kettle location
  • Greet public as they pass the kettle location
  • Becordial and polite to the public; smile, make eye contact, and greet people with "Thank you", "Merry Christmas", or other appropriate greeting
  • Report to work promptly as scheduled
  • Wear bell ringing apron while working which identifies employee as a Salvation Army bell nnger
  • Work in all weather conditions
  • Remain at the kettle location during the entire shift except during approved breaks; one 15 minute break will be allowed every 4 hours; a 30 minute break will be allowed for shifts of 6 or more hours
  • Assume responsibility for kettle, stand and bell at assigned location
  • Call supervisor on duty if Bell Ringer needs to leave shift early for any reason
  • Remain at work site until relieved of duties by another Salvation Anny staff member
  • Represent The Salvation Army by dressing and behaving appropriately
  • Remain alert and aware of surroundings, never taking the kettle off the stand
  • All monetary donations must be placed into kettle by the donor themselves; Bell Ringers are not to handle cash or coins
  • Follow Corps policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned


Employee Will Not:

  • Leave kettle unattended unless on break
  • Possess or use tobacco, gum, alcohol weapons or illegal drugs
  • Eat or beon cell phone or text while ringing bell
  • Be distracted (conversations with friends, shopping, etc.)
  • Use profanity or become argumentative with the public
  • Take money for personal use
  • Fail to follow all procedures and policies


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent desired, but not required

Experience: Previously working with the public is desired

Skills/Abilities:



  • Must be dependable
  • Must be able to demonstrate a friendly, cheerful attitude
  • Must be able to adapt to changing job situations/priorities
  • Must be clean, neat and well groomed


Supervisory Responsibility: None

Physical/Other Requirements: Include speaking, hearing and vision; manual dexterity; bending, squatting and walking; lifting, pulling and pushing materials up to 25 pounds; standing for extended periods of time. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perfonn the essential functions of this job.

Travel: None

Driving: None

Working Conditions: This position requires attending to a kettle stand for long periods of time, be based outside in all kinds of weather, and may require some light physical work.
