JOB SUMMARY
The Vice President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital (CUH) will be responsible for the operational oversight of the University of Texas Southwestern's (UTSW) Clements University Hospital and Zale Lipshy Pavilion. Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Health Affairs, the CUH CEO is a vital member of the health system's executive leadership team. This role will involve providing vision and strategic planning in the dynamic health care landscape, driving operational excellence in high-quality, patient-centered care, and fostering essential alliances and partnerships within the community and across UT Southwestern Medical Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Job Duties



  • Develops and fosters an environment of respect, collaboration, competence, transparency, innovation, and principle-driven management. Maintains a positive work environment, promoting a service oriented culture, and a culture of inclusion and engagement where everyone is valued. Drives change initiatives, maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment.
  • Responsible for leading the acute inpatient, emergency, and surgical services and, in collaboration with the health system chief operating officer, oversees the ancillary services of CUH. As the leader of CUH, the CEO will also work with ambulatory leadership to ensure the compliance and oversight of the hospital-based clinics.
  • In collaboration with the Health System Quality, Safety and Performance Improvement Office, responsible for the efforts to identify and continuously improve clinical quality.
  • Supports providers, nursing, and staff to ensure the highest levels of quality and safety, patient service, and patient satisfaction. Identifies and continuously improves clinical quality and efficiency as measured against internal and external benchmarks.
  • Establishes a vision, goals, and strategy for CUH that enhances the tripartite mission of UTSW. Identifies opportunities for growth, program development, and clinical services that serve patients, their families, and deliver on UTSWs promise of outstanding care delivery and service.
  • Provides overall guidance and direction to ensure CUH is operated ethically, compliantly, efficiently, and financially sound. Develops a structured process to optimize decision-making and outcomes.
  • Facilitates a matrixed governance and interdisciplinary approach for planning and implementation of hospital strategies, goals, and priorities; supports UTSW leaders in executing on the UTSW Strategic Plan and goals.
  • In collaboration with the Office of Institutional Advancement, health system leadership serves as an ambassador to donors and industry partners. Converts relationships and strategic vision into philanthropic funding to advance the agenda of UTSW and its health care mission.
  • Selects, recruits, develops, and leads a cohesive, results-oriented senior management team. Invests in retention, development, and engagement of faculty and staff throughout the organization. Provides direction to the CUH management team to enable the effective and efficient completion of objectives.
  • Coaches and mentors other executives, directors, and managers. Holds the management team accountable for staff development to meet overall objectives in quality, service, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develops and maintains workforce planning and talent (and succession) planning in partnership with other health system leaders.
  • Primarily responsible for the oversight and coordination of the Cardiovascular Service Line and Solid Organ Transplant programs. Additionally, the CEO works collaboratively with health system leaders and clinical chairs to support neuroscience, musculoskeletal, rehabilitation, psychiatric, oncological, and women's services programs.
  • Collaborates, supports, and optimizes relationships with partner health systems to include Texas Health Resources, Parkland Hospital and Health System, Children's Medical Center, and the Texas Behavioral Health Hospital at UT Southwestern.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Required



  • Education

    • Master's Degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and experience in healthcare or hospital administration.




  • Experience

    • 10+ years of successful health system leadership and P&L experience. Experience in areas such as healthcare finance, contracting, planning, business development, physician and hospital operations, and physician relations.
    • Must have extensive knowledge of hospital operations, preferably in a multi-hospital setting.




Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Ability to successfully work and collaborate with administrators, clinicians, and researchers at all levels.
  • Proven expertise in operational management within a multi-entity health system.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large budgets and drive financial performance
  • High level of complex problem solving abilities both in groups and one-on-one situations.
  • Understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements for large-scale healthcare and education
    organizations.
  • Proven experience at building a culture of teamwork.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to read, write, develop plans and procedures, and coordinate persons and other resources to
    accomplish goals.
  • Ability to be a team-player, bringing an innovative and creative approach to management of all functions.
  • Work requires ability to develop long and short term business strategies, operational plans and oversees
    implementation.
  • Ability to ensure adherence to all policies and procedures of university.
