Position Summary

Supervise a team of analysts in the raw material chemistry control laboratory. Determine scheduling priorities to ensure customer needs are met. Lead laboratory investigations, audits, and training of colleagues. Identify opportunities for improvements to procedures and processes.

Hours: 1st shift. Evening and weekend work required.

Position Responsibilities

  • Supervise the raw material chemistry control laboratory including 10-15 full-time Zoetis analysts and 5-10 contract analysts.
  • Determine scheduling priorities and workload distribution to ensure customer needs are met with minimal guidance from QC lab leadership, must be able to balance multiple priorities while ensuring quality work is maintained.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, lead analysts and management. Must be able to work in a team environment within own team and interdepartmental teams.
  • Lead and document laboratory investigations for procedural deviations, atypical, out-of-specification, questionable and invalid results. Perform data quality inspection through quality audits and peer review of laboratory records.
  • Train colleagues in the theory and practice of both laboratory techniques and quality system. Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), CGMPs, Company Quality Standards and FDA/EU Guidelines.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for improvements to procedures/processes and actively drive those improvements to completion.

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in sciences relating to chemistry/bio-chemistry.
  • 5+ years related experience in quality control.
  • 2+ years' experience in a supervisory or management position
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively share direction and data with colleagues across all levels and a wide range of different work groups including senior management and regulatory agencies. Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and execute multiple tasks.

Demonstrated strong organizational skills, independent judgement and initiative, solid analytical skills, and proficient problem-solving ability with high attention to detail.

Technical Skills and Competencies Required

Strong analytical skills including HPLC, GC, AA, UV/Vis. Proficient in Empower.

Proficient in common software such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Advanced Microsoft Excel skill required for data analysis and key performance indicator (KPI) development and maintenance.

Physical Position Requirements

This job has a combination of standing and seated duties.
