POSITION SUMMARY:

The Associate Director of Vendor Contracting will supervise, coach, train, and develop contracting professionals responsible for the management of vendor goods and services agreements in accordance with laws, regulations, and corporate policies and procedures. The incumbent will use experience, customer focus, and collaboration to optimally develop, execute, and manage vendor contracts and relationships through expense and supplier governance strategies.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:


  • Leads a team of contracting staff responsible for lifecycle management of all vendor agreements; oversees standard work development for the team ensuring best practices are documented and followed.
  • Trains and develops subordinates to take on more complex contract activity and provides ongoing support to build strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Directs and oversees contract negotiations including legal, business, and financial terms as a subject matter expert; ensures risk and expense mitigation strategies are in place in partnership with the Office of General Counsel (OGC), current company policies, and other internal governance structures.
  • Holds vendors accountable to performance expectations; oversees resolution of operational issues related to vendor contracts and enlists support from appropriate stakeholders and senior leadership as needed.
  • Supervises development of requests for proposal (RFP) for goods and services and subsequent execution of contracts with vendors that meet selection criteria; negotiates to achieve best possible terms and price of approved products, equipment, or services.
  • Identifies areas of opportunity and drives cost management strategies in coordination with value analysis, supply chain leadership, and internal stakeholders to optimize vendor network.
  • Assists in annual cost reduction plan development and delivers results based on plan.
  • Engages stakeholders in contracting and RFP decisions that benefit BMC and align with business objectives; determines and resolves barriers to achieve execution of best value and favorable outcomes.
  • Integrates data from various sources to effectively communicate the strategy behind contracting decisions.
  • Conducts market research to maintain knowledge of current industry trends, pricing, and products.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, law, or similar. Master's degree preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

Certification from National Contract Management Association (NCMA) or International Association for Contract and Commercial Management (IACCM) or similar credential preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

8+ years progressive contract negotiation and/or category management

2+ years supervisory preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA):


  • Able to draft moderate to complex, non-routine contractual agreements.
  • Skilled at researching, interpreting, and communicating complex issues in a clear and succinct manner.
  • Broad knowledge of legal principles and procedures as they relate to vendor contracts.
  • Excellent interpersonal, team building and communication skills.
  • Able to achieve targeted results through influence and negotiation.
  • Proficient at analysis necessary to make sound recommendations based on data. Able to develop accurate summary information for executive review.
  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications.
  • Knowledge of various hospital operations functions including clinical, facilities, IT, support services, materials management, purchasing, value analysis, and vendor management functions.
