The Role:

As an Underwriting Manager, you will hire, manage, and onboard a team of Underwriters for the Home Equity Loans team.

Responsibilities:




  • Allocates underwriting authority for staff, establishing their ability to make sound decisions on mortgage loans.



  • Able to assist with the review and approval process for decisions and recommendations related to complex cases.



  • Effectively train, coach, and lead the Underwriting team to continuously refine their team's skills to reach and exceed production and quality goals.



  • Demonstrate leadership standards through support for our culture, values, and behavioral expectations.



  • Build and nurture strong relationships across multiple operations teams and sales to influence desired outcomes and achieve organizational goals.



  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes.



  • Maintain guidelines based on GSE and investor requirements, and communicate with Senior management, operations, and sales, when changes are required.



  • Review Quality Control reports for error trends and work with Senior Management to develop a plan to reduce the number of errors.





Requirements:




  • 8+ years of mortgage underwriting experience.



  • 3+ years of experience in leading a Mortgage Underwriting Team.



  • Current knowledge of federal, state, and FDIC regulations and statutes about real estate lending is typically acquired through experience in mortgage underwriting, production, and operations.



  • Comprehensive knowledge of mortgage products, services, and industry trends.



  • Excellent written, spoken, active listening, and interpersonal communication skills with a high level of diplomacy in directing production staff.



  • Strong motivation and management skills required to lead an experienced mortgage underwriting team, geared to meet production and quality goals.



  • Critical decision-making skills and sound judgment to address and resolve issues.



  • Technical proficiency with a high-level knowledge of computer systems including Encompass and Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel.



  • Effective time management skills include prioritizing responsibilities and organizing work tasks.




Compensation and Benefits
The base pay range for this role is listed below. Final base pay offer will be determined based on individual factors such as the candidate's experience, skills, and location.
