Summary

The Nuclear Respiratory Safety Technician administers, distributes and maintains the Palo Verde (PV) site Respiratory Maintenance and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) program. They Determine both equipment and training needs for Fire Prevention, Operations, Security, Radiation Protection (RP) and Health Services with respect to respiratory storage, maintenance, deployment and use. They Continually validate Respiratory Maintenance and SCBA compliance with the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Ensures all employees involvement in SCBA operation are trained in accordance with industry standards and regulations.

Minimum Requirements

High school diploma/GED.

Valid U.S. driver's license (must obtain Arizona driver's license within 30 days of hire).

Successfully obtain the Palo Verde SCBA qualification within six months of hire.

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:

Familiarity with common tools supporting light maintenance.

Knowledge of the regulatory requirements delineated in 10 CFR Part 50 Appendix R.

Firefighting, fire inspection or fire prevention experience.

Hold any valid State of Arizona Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification.

Hold the MSA Certified Air Mask Repair Education (CARE) comprehensive certification for SCBA maintenance.

Nuclear experience.

SCBA maintenance certification.

Maintenance experience.

Nuclear requirement:

Any Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS) employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and will be expected to fulfill their obligation as an ERO member. Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to support a refueling or short-notice outage. This includes line roles and responsibilities as necessary to execute outage activities. These are conditions of employment at PVNGS.

Major Accountabilities

1) Administers the PV Respiratory Maintenance and SCBA program by working with Fire Operations, Security Operations, Plant Operations, RP and Health Services to ensure program compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Periodically evaluates all site affiliated devices are operational and within required specifications. Ensures all support equipment necessary to maintain program operational including associated required maintenance and verifications are available.

2) Validates site has appropriate quantities of affiliated hardware and support equipment in required areas to facilitate emergency use/operation. Ensures all equipment in required areas are rotated and/or maintained compliant with program maintenance, test and replacement requirements.

3) Provides guidance for all qualified personnel in equipment usage. Monitors respiratory equipment life cycles to ensure optimal asset performance while considering the potential for new technological developments. Cultivates relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. Regularly reports to management on program status. Advises on issues and opportunities.

4) Provides both short- and long-term budget forecasting needs to leadership team and other stakeholders while validating that proper record keeping is conducted and maintained. Initiates corrective documents for any deficiencies identified within the programs or their associated records.

5) Provides vertical and horizontal feedback to achieve continuous Respiratory Maintenance, SCBA, and Fire Prevention program improvement. Actively participates in and assists with Fire Prevention day-to-day operations as designated.

6) Trains Fire Prevention Operators, Site Operations, Security Operations, RP and Health Services in the practical aspects of Respiratory Maintenance and SCBA program compliance.

Plant/FieldRole:

This position requires work to be performed in the field and/or at the work site, due to the nature of work.

Any PVGS employees may be called upon for random Fitness for Duty (FFD) testing during scheduled working hours. Employees, if off-site, must report to FFD at Palo Verde as soon as reasonably practicable, but no more than 120 minutes after being notified. Employees who are onsite when notified will have no more than 60 minutes to report after being notified.
