THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Food Service Manager, you will be planning, organizing, and directing the overall operations of the food service department. This includes determining staffing needs and priorities based on established facility and department goals and objectives. You will develop and modify menus as well as prepare and submit an annual department budget, managing allocation factors to include controlling overtime costs. Other responsibilities include developing, revising, and implementing functional work processes and procedures. You will also establish, schedule, and implement department orientation and on-the-job training programs for staff and inmate workers. This includes overseeing and providing direction to staff including corrections food service supervisors, instructors, and inmate workers.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $56,098.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Corrections Food Service Manager 1 (commonwealth title); or
  • Two years of experience as a Corrections Food Service Supervisor (commonwealth title); or
  • Five years of paraprofessional experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation, which includes two years of supervisory experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training, which includes two years of supervisory experience in food preparation, production, or service.

Special Requirement:

  • You must possess an active Food Manager Certification issued by an approved provider.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
