The lab of Professor Alexander Gates, the Connected Data Hub, together with the School of Data Science at the University of Virginia, is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the area of science of science, network science, and natural language processing. As part of a small research team, the postdoc will help lead efforts to provide a quantitative model of global competitiveness of national research infrastructures. The ideal candidates will have a PhD in a discipline closely related to computational social science by date of appointment (e.g. network science, computer science, data science, engineering, sociology, economics, management, or related fields). We seek applicants with strong computational and statistical skills, experience with managing large datasets, and fluency with commonly used scientific scripting languages (e.g., Python, SQL, or R). We also seek candidates with good communication skills in spoken and written English, and an ability to produce state-of-the artresearch. This position is only open to current U.S. citizens. This is a one-year term limited position with the possibility of renewal based on funding and satisfactory performance.
